has anyone taken this survey before? It basically tries to find out if the nurses on your floor are satisfied with their jobs or not. It asks most questions framed with "How do you think the nurses on your floor would answer these questions" and then its strongly agree, agree, somewhat agree, disagree, disagree somewhat and strongly disagree,.
It is supposed to be anonymous and it ranks things at a national level right down to a unit level (thats why I don't think it will be anonymous). Its suposed to really give good data on job satisfaction etc.
It asks more or less the same six or seven questions reworded different ways, which is weird. And like I said, it asks you to think in terms of what most of the nurses on your unit think, very few individual questions.
Anyway, we are taking it at our hospital. The same day that the questionairre went out, the NM put out a scathing letter to all our nurses saying that our care is not compassionate and that raises will be held if our satisfaction scores don't improve. The nurses are offended and affronted and morale fell into the garbage yesterday.
The NDNQI is going to be totally affected by this I am sure.
Anyway, if anyone has taken it, has it resulted in change? Positive, negative?

We have had to take it a couple of times, we really haven't seen a change and we are a magnet faciltiy.
I think the ndnqi is kind of dumb and very repititve. but i am usually brutally honest.

I live in Arizona, and I have taken it as well. Personally I think it was a waste of time, as do many of the nurses on my floor. They don't feel that it will help to make any changes in a positive direction. It was done on our computer system, and our manager was upset that very few of us took it. I would say only abouta 1/4 of the nurses did. The questions are worded strangely, and I don't like the idea of my having to think of what I think others think. If I am not mistaken some of them asked how I thought other nurses on other floors thought. I agree that the scores will be affected by the actions of your NM. Besides, really anything can effect it, a bad day, working short staffed etc. or just not wanting to take the time to do it. So far our manager has not said that our raises would be based on this test at all, we probably work on a different system regarding raises. I would not think that you NM would be able to hold raises on the merit of what this test showed.
she isn't holding raises based on the test, just that the powers that be feel that we as nurses are not compassionate and therefore, raises will be held if our scores don't improve. Her saying that will affect the questionairre because we are all really upset right now.
They are offering us some kind of incentive if 95% or greater of us fill it out. Not sure what--they didn't know either. Probably something like ice cream or something. Cold hard cash would be better lol
