NCLEX RN-LVN Comprehensive review - America Healthways Education Center

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

For someone who graduated from nursing school a very long time ago, I needed a comprehensive review class that would help me prepare for the NCLEX-RN. I thank God that I have found America Healthways Education Center which has helped me to be equipped with the knowledge (core content) & understanding that I needed to pass the exam. The instructor is a top notch NCLEX-RN and LVN educator who is very knowledgeable on the field of nursing. Together with his wonderful wife, they have helped countless nurses achieved their dream of finally becoming a USRN.

All the elements that you need to pass the NCLEX are covered by America Healthways review class:

* if you're a reader-learner - they have the binder/manual (all systems covered - from MS, Pediatrics, OB, Mental health, Legal Aspects, etc.), they have the "NCLEX bullets" (a straight-on manual that is specifically made by the instructor that will definitely help you gain more knowledge - available only at America Healthways)

* If you're a auditory-learner - just sit back & listen to the lecture & don't forget to take notes while listening - enjoy your coffee too - did I mention that the coffee is free all day long? Yes, the coffee is free.

* If you're a visual-learner - there’s power-point presentation - a visual aid that is made to supplement the information to the class so that it can be understood more easily.

At America Healthways, they emphasize the importance of Core-content, the Understanding of the topics and the Retention.

With all those elements I've learned at the review, all the preparations with the help of good friends which I met in the review, the prayers offered, I took the NCLEX-RN last February 9th and I'm proud to say that I am now a CA-USRN.

Thank you America Healthways Education Center for providing me the essentials: the knowledge-Core content, the Understanding and the Retention of the topics that I needed to conquer and pass the NCLEX.

God bless you America Healthways, may you continue to help more nurses achieve their dream of passing the NCLEX.

America Healthways Education Center - VERY highly recommended.

Prior to taking the NCLEX on my first attempt I studied Hurst, Kaplan and did Uworld and on top of it all I was faced with multiple distractions that hindered my studies. Unfortunately, I had no luck in passing on my first attempt.

Upon deciding on what I turn too, I researched AHEC through Yelp. Looking at the price I was hesitant at first but after reading testimonials, I gave it a shot. I’m glad I invested in the course and I felt it was well worth the money. In my case, I attended two 8 day sessions to ensure that I understood the material as well as the most important parts to excel on the NCLEX. As soon as I entered that class I felt that I belong there and that it was faith that got me here. With the help of our Mr *** and Mrs ****, I was able to build trust, patience and most importantly refocus . Mr *** will make sure you leave each class understanding the material as well as the most important parts. He is also really sweet and funny. Mr. *** will go above and beyond to help you achieve your goals.

Not only did this program condense and narrow the material, but it gave me the confidence that I needed all along, and I began believing in myself once more. I made sure that I had a regular study schedule in work and master Mr *** content. When took the NCLEX again on February 22, 2019, I prayed on daily b as I can and exhaled all the anxiety I had leading to the exam. My exam stopped at 149 questions, and a few days later I found out I Passed. Words can not describe the moment that is finally setting in for me.I thought this would be a hurdle that I could never get over. But by the grace of God, I did it.

I would like to thank Mr *** and Mrs **** for helping me achieve this dream. 10 years in the making but it was all worth the wait. To Future LVN\RN’s, American Healthways Education Center’s NCLEX refresher is the best NCLEX review center. The instructors Mr *** and Mrs **** are very knowledgeable and encourage students to ask questions in addition to explaining difficult concepts in a simple manner. Make sure you study some of the content prior to attending the class so you have a good grasp of the material going in. I pray that you all get the confidence that you need. You are all capable and can do anything you set your mind to.

I wish you all the best

Hello there,

Thanks for starting this thread and I too had NCLEX success from taking this NCLEX refresher and I'm tryna send people to take the course.

I want to start by saying how thankful I am for Sir *** and Miss *** of America Healthways Education. They are truly a blessing and I would not have passed without their help. I had been out of nursing school for 6 years so when the approval for NCLEX-RN finally happened, it was time to take action and relearn everything I had learned in nursing school 6 years ago and so much more that I hadn't remembered learning. I started the NCLEX review Feb 2019 and I rearranged my schedule in preparation for the test and am ready to move on with the next step in my life. The kind of support from the program is invaluable. They treated me like family and gave me helpful suggestions to further my career goals. I took the test May 2019 and with God's good grace, the help of everyone involved in this program and a lot of hard work, I got good news that I passed on the first try! Now I can truly say I accomplished my first and main goal for moving out from the Philippines to the US. Thank you once again AHEC for bringing me closer to my dreams!

Let me start with a brief background about me: I have graduated BSN in the PHilippines last 2006. More than decade ago, the chance of working in the US was pretty slim. No hirings and no sponsorships available. It was that time that US recession was starting and employment rate was dwindling.

Plus the fact that I wasn't really interested in leaving because I was already working as a fulltime RN. I never came around filing for Nclex. Fast forward to 2018 when I moved to the US since I became a greencard holder. This time my spouse filed for my Nclex with the California BON. Despite concurrency issues with foreign graduates, I was lucky to be given a chance to take the NCLEX without concurrency issue with my BSN program.

Lets just say I had too much going on with my life that I really didn't got to “studying”. after 4 months after I received the BON Approval, i started reading the Saunders book. Thats the thing with me, I have the shortest attention span and i get bored easily. From October2018 to mid November 2018 I was able to finish the book(although i skipped few other chapters). Then came December in which again I got busy and completely forgot all about my review and shoved the saunders book under my bed. I was caught up in the holiday partying to care much about my review. I wasn't entirely committed or focused with my review. January 2019 came and i totally gave up on the idea of reviewing and went to Europe for vacation. Everything in that book flew out of my head too.

When I came back on mid February2019 after my overseas vacation, i was kicking myself mentally for slacking off. I started answering UWorld but thought It wasnt enough at all. I considered going to that out-of-state review that cost about 4000$. It was decade ago since I got out of nursing school. I felt rusty with my nursing concepts. My spouse saw how dejected I was and looked in at allnurses forum for review places here in soCal. Spouse stumbled upon America Healthways and by sheer coincidence it was just 15-20minutes drive from our house. One day, spouse drove me to the center and enrolled me for a review class for March 2019. The education coordinator gave me the HUGE and heavy binder along with a homework and advised me to just read and stop doing my uworld. HOMEWORK! Pshhhh! When it was handed to me, there was an imaginary thud sound in my head as she handed that HUGe reviewer. No kidding. The binder felt like a stone tablet with all the nursing commandments written in there! At home, i just stared at the homework for hours! I was told to read a huge portion of that binder and had 10 days to do so. I resigned to reading it. I had no choice, either. I skipped a few parts here and there. Told you I had the shortest attention span. I realized I have not answered my take home tests/homework. At 1 am, just few 8 shy hours away from my first class with America healthways, and even if I felt i caught the flu, i was damn answering that quiz like a maniac! And yes I did sure wake up with the flu. I called and told them Im coming in next month for my review. That extra 3 weeks I had, i spent religiously reading the binder/reviewer.

April rolled over and class was starting, I was forced to wake up at 8am! I am nocturnal. I usually sleep late for at least 12 hours and sleep in until noon time. Waking up was even too much work for me but I had no choice but to go to the class. Since I already read the binder/reviewer twice, It was easier for me to catch up and be pretty much active with the 9 day live class discussions. The class was non threatening but requires active participation. The educator was encouraging and engaging. The environment was conducive and set up was perfect for discussions/lecture. Educator and coordinator was hands-on and dedicated to your goal of passing the Nclex as well. And I felt much better. My confidence grew.

Fast forward april 26 for the last day of the class we had final exams and I crawled just above passing score. And I felt confident enough. My exam date was inching forward. I had it scheduled on May 15th. Since I was already waking up brunch time, I went to the library for an intensive review on my own. I went home past 10pm and sometimes midnight. While i was in the library, I was doing my Kaplan qbanks, reading my America Healthways binder/reviewer, and as well as finished off my remaining qbanks with Uworld since I already paid for them. I was more connecting with Uworld and found it pretty much easy to answer the qbanks since I have my organized concepts already when I had that review with America Healthways. I had full grasp of concepts now. The loose concepts are now intact and organized.

I was answering Kaplan qbanks and scores was just a little above passing. Even if i wasnt scoring high, the results was pretty consistent. I was developing my phase too. So i was doing a combination of Kaplan, reading my AMerica Healthways reviewer to brush on that topics/questions that I missed, skimming through the bullets that I bought from America Healthways as well, mnemonics from picmonic app, searching for add on materials at Pinterest or youtube. A week before my nclex exam, I took my uworld final exams and got a passing remarks for the 2 sets, 3 sets of Kaplan Adaptive tests which has yellow and mostly green results for my scores which shut down at 75 for all that 3 sets. I knew I was ready then. 5 more days before the BIG day, I concentrated on my America Healthways bullets and my self-made flashcards that I had accumulated from the rationales of my qbanks. I knew I was ready. 1 day prior to my Nclex exam, I took an entire day off and had the best Thai massage in my life(although I glanced for about 10 minutes and reviewed the EKG’s.lol.)

NCLEX day came and I was saying my prayers . Went 30 minutes before my time, I went through protocol /screening. I made a point not to bring my phone or any review materials at the testing site. Wore loose and baggy clothing and brought just a few snack bars and my water. I was trying to keep my self calm. I sat down and started answering. On the fifth item I had the much dreaded SaTA. And them came all that SATA’s. I almost had 60-70% of my exam was SaTa’s. I was blinking back tears. I wasnt looking at the item number on the top corner. I wasnt even looking at the time. I was just concentrating getting the right answers or getting the next difficult questions. The first pop up for my break came. I took a deep breath. Got up and went out to the receiving lounge and sipped on my water. Took some deep breaths and stretched a few more times. Went to the restroom before going in to start again where I had left off. Sata, sata, another sata. Answered another 15 questions and my monitor blinked! I froze. And i shifted my eyes over to the top right corner and saw 76. I stopped at 75! And I ask myself, “thats it? Its over just like that?” I was trembling. I was really going to cry now. Relief flooded over me because I knew I did well. And there came the case studies that was not scored. I didnt mind that they were hard. I was just answering them the best that i can even knowing that those questions were not scored. I was so ready to cartwheel myself happily out of the room but I remained calm and finish off the case studies. When I was out of the building and inside my car, I literally bawled! I had the best cry in my life! Happy tears streamed down my face and i was saying my prayers in my head! Headed straight towards the church because I knew deep in my heart that I did well! My spouse did the PVT trick fee hours after and got the good pop up. 48 hours after my exam, I already had my license number posted in my breeze account. Registered nurse. Big words. Whoop there goes my heart!

Yes, that is my long story and journey towards my RN dream. First time to take the NClex, foreign educated and graduated more than a decade ago! It doesnt matter how long you had graduated or how many reviewers you had. Its a combination of whatever works for you and HARDWORK plus DEDICATiOn. And of course Prayers and faith!

NCLEX is really hard but not impossible. All that hardwork, America healthways review classes, combination of Kaplan materials, youtube, picmonic, Uworld, and techniques, I wouldn't have it any other way. Whatever works for me might not work for you. You know yourself better. Figure out what’s best for you and what works for you.
