NCLEX Repeat Test Taker, 265 questions

Nursing Students NCLEX

  • Repeat test taker here. First time, I used UWorld studied everyday about 8-9 hours a day. I ONLY used UWorld since my classmates who were all passing their NCLEX swore by it. I went up to 210 questions and ran out of time. I knew deep in my heart I failed. Worst feeling ever. Fast forward to 4 days ago when my exam was scheduled at 2pm same location. This time no UWorld; I changed up my whole game plan. I purchased NCSBN, Kaplan questions from my dear friend who already passed her NCLEX, Saunder's, and Mark Klimek's lectures. Here I went, studied for 3 months again but with breaks and some laughs this time, even going to Disneyland in bw the time. The day of my exam, I went to the gym in morning to do my HIIT run to get the blood flowing to my brain and took a cold shower, which I highly recommend guys! I ended up doing all 265 questions with 30 mins left. At the end, oh my how hypoglycemic and faint I felt and super hungry. This time, I couldn't distinguish my feelings if I failed or not bc honestly, I felt I was doing ok on some of the Qs unlike first time I took NCLEX. Sadly next day, I confirmed my feelings when I checked PVT which was letting me pay (meaning I failed). Back to depress mode. Forward to next day (2days after exam) I was getting ready to reapply to BRN for 3rd time getting my application ready etc 2 days after my exam. Only when I logged into BRN website to look for something did I notice at the top right corner a current license # as a Registerd Nurse. I was in disbelief thinking I failed! But it was real and too amazing. The prayers, blood, sweat, & tears I poured throughout were well worth it. I truly thank God above along w superb supportive family! Repeat test takers, never give up hope please, Believe me! Allnurses thank you so much, the day has come for me to post.

Happy to hear that using a detailed study plan helped you pass NCLEX... Congrats!!

:)

thats great news, Im worried myself since i study for 8 hours a day. How was your uworld scores? also did you feel like the resources you have used the second time around helped and if so which ones do you recommend?

Hi there 2016srnfcc.

My Uworld scores were midline mediocre. I studied and did over 3,000 questions repeating etc. It has precise rationales but I don't see how it is so similar to NCLEX how others say, which is my opinion. I failed after only using UWorld, so I didn't go back to it. I actually felt betrayed lol. Although nothing will ever be exactly like NCLEX, I feel Kaplan's questions were a bit similar. Don't expect Kaplan to give good rationales but I felt Kaplan helped along with NCSBN. Saunders was also good for content. I prayed so hard with all my heart and left the rest to God's hands. Keep studying and make sure you do lots of questions while deeply understanding the reasons why the answers are what they are. Don't worry too much and don't let anxiety take over, especially when you know this is what you want to do. God always has a plan. Good luck with all your studies :))

Thank you NRSKarenRN! I get so overjoyed and super thankful everytime I think about the moment I bestowed upon my license # by accident that early Friday morning. :))))

Hi, I'm new The first time I did the exam was on 9/22/2017, I only used UWorld with a score of 96%, I studied every day around 8-9 hours per day. I got 170 questions and I ran out of time, at 48 hours I knew that it failed, it was horrible. I spent the rest of the year without studying, very disappointed because many of my colleagues who almost did not study and who never reached 60% happened fortunately, that's life. I returned to the study at the end of January of this year and I took the exam again on 4/27/2018 and I got 75 questions, for a moment I thought that if I did it. But unfortunately when I did the PVT, I failed once more. This time I did not study for UWorld, but for Pearson 2008, Mark Klimek and UWorld abstracts. I am very depressed, I do not have to do it, I bought the UWorld again and I have a score between 75-86%. I would like someone to help me find the point where I am failing. In the next few days I will take an advanced course, I must pass the exam this year to not face the change next year. Thank you

Ok take it one step at a time and don't let the the big picture overwhelm you. If you are serious about becoming a nurse, then it is in you to do all that you can do to the best of your ability. As for preparing for NCLEX, you have to know the content of the material first to be able to think critically about what the choices of the answers can be. It would be good to take a course type for review. Also learn the strategies of the answers to pick. The 2nd time around, like I said, I did not use UWorld but everything else, even Mark Klimek's lectures. Saunders was good for content. Kaplan is good for critical thinking questions. NCSBN as well. I think variety is key :) good Luck
