NCLEX HELP

Recent grad, looking for help in passing NCLEX. I have taken NCLEX two times. I have severe test anxiety. Anyone with test taking tips or help/advice to assist me in passing the NCLEX? I have only one more time to take the test in my state. If I don't pass, I have to retake nursing courses and/or a nursing curriculum. I narrow the answers down on tests to the last two, and choose the wrong one 90% of the time. Any help out there? Desperately seeking help!!!

Hi,

I failed my NCLEX RN exam on August 12,00 I will be eligible to retest in Novemeber. Did you pass yours if so what helped you do it. I am scared of failing again. There are so many books out there for nclex study and I dont want to over study. Any advice would be treasured.

thank you

Angela

I GREATLY SYMPATHIZE WITH ANYONE WHO FAILED THAT DAMN TEST.I REALLY FEEL IT SHOULD BE GIVEN AT THE END OF NURSING SCHOOL.ALL THE STUDY,MONEY,STRESS AND DRAMA IS TOO MUCH.HOW I STUDIED WAS:I DID AT LEAST 100 QUESTIONS EVERYDAY FOR A MONTH BEFORE THE TEST.IF I DIDN'T KNOW SOMETHING-I LOOKED IT UP.I DID MANY QUESTIONS ON MY COMPUTER.IF I WAS TRAVELING I TOOK A NCLEX BOOK WITH ME.I DO NOT THINK YOU CAN STUDY TOO MUCH BUT YOU CAN STUDY THE WRONG STUFF.REMEMBER YOUR ABC'S ANS MASLOW WHEN PICKING YOUR ANSWER.COMPUTERIZED QUESTIONS WILL HELP YOU GET A FEEL FOR THE TEST,BUT I ALSO THINK WHAT IS AVAILABLE OUT THERE TO STUDY FROM HAS NOT CAUGHT UP WITH THE CURRENT NCLEX.YOU KNOW THE INFORMATION, HAVE CONFIDENCE IN YOURSELF.YOU WILL PASS. peace and love spitfire

[/b]I just found out that I passed my boards, and I too was an anxious test taker. In my opinion the review books cover too much. Try taking the practice tests and find your weak areas. You might be suprised to find that it is not the material that is giving you problems but it is the area of nursing process that you are missing. Try caring4you.com they have a list of hints that help you desern what type of answer the question is getting at. Relax, if all else fails (as in my case) drive yourself to a book store and get yourself a stress reduction/relaxation tape. You are an intelligent person who can pass the boards, or else you wouldn't have made it this far. Don't let fear defeat you!!!! Feel free to send me an e-mail if you need any more advice.

I, too, was very worried about taking my NCLEX, I do not test well. While this was 1994 that I took it,this helped me: I got an NCLEX computer program which simulated the test BUT gave rationales for each answer as to why it was right or wrong- I don't think I would have passed without that. In my opinion the answers to the questions on NCLEX were a judgement call, at least at that time, as to which one of two potentially right answers is "more right". I understand that more now having discovered that patient care is also, in some matters/areas, a judgement call as to what is best for the patient/family, or "more right". I got that program thru an NCLEX study flyer I believe. Hope this helps!!Christina,505rn

I never took a refresher. I did, however, study test books. I recommend practicing those questions and the ones you miss, reading the rationalization. This helps you see how they think. I also recommend buying a book called 1001 Nursing Bullets. It is chock full of miscellaneous info that may (or may not) show up. It skips all the worthless info and allows you to remember the pertinent info. GOOD LUCK!

HI there! I passed my boards in June. I did computer questions every night and reviewed rationals when I was wrong. EXAMCO was one program I used, and helped, Mosby's Saunder's and a lot of prayer. I focused on SAFETY FIRST! the my ABC's. Management was whipping us all hard. Calm down, eat before your test, and then throw up. No big deal.Just remember SAFETY!!!!!!! AIRWAY BREATHING CIRCULATION.... Our college had severl programs that we could do to "hone" our weaknesses. Don't panic! You know what to expect. Don't spend a lot of time on a question. Read it, eliminate two, read it and click. Wavering is bad....Go with your first instinct! You can do this! Let me know how it goes. E-mail me if you need any other help......Take care and remember to breathe!
