NCLEX exam in 11 days...

Published

I take my exam in 11 days...Every time I think about it I feel like Im going to vomit. I am seriously starting to think maybe my approach should have been different. Everyone who has taken it and all my professors kept telling me "questions, questions, questions and very little content review" So that is what I have been doing. Now I think maybe I should have done the opposite?

I have been using Kaplan online review and have been doing well in the qbank and qtrainers, I also purchased a couple other books. I am STRUGGLING with the SATA, so this is a huge concern for me...

I also have had a bunch of personal stuff going on, so that has been a HUGE distraction...

Starting to think I should reschedule, but Im not sure that would help either...

I JUST WANT TO PASS!

We're on the same boat. :) I will take the exam on April 10, this Thursday. For SATA have you tried Saunders or NCLEX 3500 or 4000? I believe you need to know your content so you can answer SATA. Since you said you're doing good with Qbanks and Qtrainers, that means you're doing well. You need to be confident. :) YOU got this! :D :yeah:

I'm also going through some personal matter, goodness I know exactly how you feel being so distracted. My scores on practice test were from 80ish down to 30ish. Sounds real bad huh? Lol. :dead: But try to focus no matter how hard it is. I talk to myself, remind myself what my goals and priorities are and I've gone a long way to back down. Hard, hard, hard but I was able to get back on track. :) I also planned to reschedule but I didn't. I thought with this kind of distraction, It'll just get worse if I'll delay it. But it's still up to you. You know yourself better than anyone else. You know if you're ready. :D Good luck and God bless! :)

Thanks for the reply. Ive been using Lippincott for the SATA and alternate type questions. You are right, you need content for those questions, I keep getting the right answers then one wrong one or miss one right one...It is driving me nutty! Did you use Kaplan too? I think I would be a little more confident if Kaplan used more SATA's in their qtrainers. I did qtrainer 6 the other night, did well, but I don't remember any SATA if there were, there were only a couple. In the back of my head I keep thinking "what if Im one of those people who get like 30 of those???"

I don't think I am going to reschedule, it might make my anxiety worse, but it is sometimes a nice thought.

Good luck with your test! We can do it!

I mainly use Hurst. I have the old Qtrainer that you can download for free, didn't answer Qtrainer 6 and 7 because there's no way you can pause the exam. Lol. I also have Kaplan Strategies book but I basically use it for the Q&A. My friend used Kaplan and she was averaging 50ish to 60ish and she passed with 76 questions, she said the decision tree helped her the most. Do alternate format questions everyday. You're using great resources. Keep on answering and reading the rationales. Repetition can help you retain the information to your long term memory. :) Yes, We can do it. :)

You couldn't pause them? Yikes! The online program lets us pause the qtrainers, thank goodness I can't sit through that many questions (though Im sure I could if I had to).

Thanks for the advice. Ive been trying to do alternate format everyday, though today Im reviewing some stuff I know I am struggling with (like the developmental stages for peds). I will likely go back to more questions at the end of my studying tonight.

Good luck!

I think you made a great choice with your strategy. Don't forget to read through all the rationales. Understand them, don't memorize. If you don't understand something, go back and look it up. Practice SATA if you feel weak in them. Remember, if you have a lot of SATA in your exam it's a good sign. It means you are doing well.

Also, go over test-taking strategies.

Thank you LVHI_RN. I think it is really easy to doubt yourself. I hear so many different takes how we should be studying for this test, it is hard to feel confident. It doesn't help that I have some classmates texting me saying "Im doing, this or that"...Well Im just going to keep plucking away and hopefully I pass.

It really is. Much harder than it sounds. Don't listen to anyone. Do what's best for yourself. In the end, it all comes down to how you feel and what works for you. Stay confident. I know it's hard, especially when you're in there but it'll all pay off. Good luck! And can't wait to hear you passed.

i'm testing in 11 days, i've been out of school since march 3rd, 2014 and i originally had my test date to may 3rd. I decided to change it and move it up, because it feels like you can spend a life time trying to study for the nclex lol. I bough PDA by LaCharity to help me study, and as a matter of fact i'm doing 100 alternative format questions from saunders right now (i'm taking a small mental break lol) also don't stress yourself too much. YOU CAN DO IT. say it out loud every day :D
