NCC Fall 2020

Published

Hey everyone! I didn't see a thread for Nassau Community College (NCC) Fall 2020 Applicants. I figured why not get one started!

I'd like to see what the pool of applicants are looking like.

My Stats:

I'm not a Nassau Resident.

I've never been in any nursing program.

ENG 101: C+

ENG 102: B+

STATS: C

AP 1: B

AP 2: B

GEN PSYCH: A

LIFESPAN: A

BIOMED: B+

MED MICRO: B

PATHO: B

I also have multiple electives with a grade of A

Current NCC GPA: 3.4

Combined GPA w/ other college: 2.97 (If I calculated it correctly!)

** Can anyone tell me if they know of anyone applying with a GPA of 2.97?! I feel like this is what will ruin my chances of applying. :(**

I applied for Fall 2020 as well but I don't think I'll get in. I technically only have 5 out of the 10 pre-reqs complete. I'm currently in 2 of them now (spring semester) but those grades are posted after Fall 2020 decisions are made.

I will probably need to re-apply for Spring 2021.

Best of luck! Hopefully you do get in! I called the office and I was told that they do not focus on cumulative GPA. They are more concerned with your pre-req GPA. I hope I get in ;(! My pre-req GPA would be a 3.1. I am retaking my TEAS also. I did not do so great my first time.

I submitted my application

I have 8 out of 10. I am taking micro and patho now.

A&P 1 - A

A&P 2 - A

Ethics - A

Lifespan - A

Psych - B

Eng 2 - B

Eng 1 - A

Statistics - I think B+ (I forgot)

Nassau resident and my overall TEAS is 85

Have others gotten in without 100 percent of pre reqs complete?

I have read from previous post that people have gotten in, but of course the more you have done the better your chances are! I actually spoke to the office a while back and I found out that they calculate your GPA by pre-reqs only. I don't remember if it's by science pre-reqs or all the pre-reqs. That is such a relief because my combined cumulative GPA got lowered because I didn't do so well at a previous college. I heard you also get 5 points if you've never been in a nursing program and 10 points for being a Nassau County resident.

Where did you find the pre reqs that are needed to get into the nursing program? Do you need to have them all completed before applying?

They do not have to be completed to apply for the program, but you have a better chance the more pre-reqs you have done. If you go to the NCC nursing website click "Routes for Admission" and scroll down. You will see the classes listed. All the classes I have completed are pretty much all the pre-reqs. They did add "SOCI 3010 Aging and Society" & "HIST 3345 Modern American History - (Online)" as additional pre-req courses, but those can be taken during the nursing program as well.

Does anyone know the rubric for calculating points?

@sm2811

LOL. I'm going to try to break this down and explain it as easy as possible!

So this is the quality point chart...

A= 4.0

B+= 3.5

B= 3.0

C+=2.5

C= 2.0

When you calculate you will take the number of credits that your one class is worth and multiply that by the grade you received, which is the quality point grade that matches on the chart.

I'll use a few of my grades for an example.

AP 1 (4 credit course) My grade: B (B= 3.0 quality points)

= 4 credits x 3.0 Q.P. = 12 points

STATS (3 credit course) My grade: C (C= 2.0 quality points)

= 3 credits x 2.0 Q.P. = 6 points

BIO 131 (3 credit course) My grade: B+ (B+= 3.5 quality points)

= 3 credits x 3.5 Q.P. = 10.5 points

Keep in mind you get 10+ points for being a Nassau County Resident and 5+ points for never being in a nursing program before.

Hey! Just wanted to find a group also waiting to hear back from NCC. I heard back from Molloy and waiting on SBU too.

Any ideas on timeline for letters to go out from NCC?

Thanks

Unfortunately we won’t be hearing back from NCC yet. They extended the application due date due to corona virus. As of right now I am hearing a state of emergency is about to be declared. The timeline to hear back is going to be messed up because some people still need to take their TEAS exam.

Ah shoot! Thanks for passing on the information. Looks like I'll just have to put down a hefty deposit on Molloy just in case! Good luck!
