I took it two years ago and I took Lisa Miller's review and then the test. I personally would not do it any other way. Lisa is an excellent speaker and teacher and prepares your well for the exam. The test was very comprehensive and while she does go over a lot of what is on the test, there are still some curve balls in there.
I did pass. If you can take the review course, I would. The test really challenges your knowlege of physiology when it comes to monitoring and reading strips. Acid base is in there along with basic stuff like how the monitor functions, its history and troubleshooting. Much of the test was interpreting a strip, but much more than decels accels and such. You have to really know physiology, and unless you have been trained that way all along, you may have trouble. They have also incorporated David Millier's decision pathways for differential diagnosis into the exam. You also really, really need to know your NICHD nomenclature.
I think there is suggested study guides on the NCC website to help you.
That is very nice they give you money for your certifications....I do not have that at my facility.....only a pat on the back.
you will find a lot of courses there, including those by Lisa Miller, CNM and others.
I passed this exam without a specific review course or book. I worked in L&D for about 2.5 years before taking the test, and took the AWHONN intermediate fetal heart monitoring course about a year and a half before. Definitely review the new NICHD terminology and the physiology behind decels. Many of the questions were scenarios where you had to identify the first intervention that you would do after something occurred, or figure out why something was happening, so it tested at a deeper level than just straight pattern identification.

Has anyone taken the NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring Exam for certification? There is a class taught my Lisa Miller and I am thinking about taking it. I have my RNC-OB.
Just wondered what you thought about the class and/or test.
