Navy Nurse Corp

I am currently a junior nursing major and I am interested in joining the Navy after I graduate. Can I join the navy nurse Corp right after graduation as a new grad or do I need to have experience first? Thank you in advance!

As a junior you should start speaking to an OFFICER recruiter as soon as possible. Hopefully that person can put you into contact with a Nurse Corps recruiter. If for some reason you don't get accepted while in nursing school, you should work in a specialty for a few years. The Navy isn't really taking new grad nurses. The ones they are accepting are ones with around 3 years of experience and a certification.

My path: Applied for the Nurse Candidate Program the summer before my junior year. Got accepted in early Feb or Jan (don't remember) of my senior year. I took my NCLEX, two months later went to ODS, and started working in the Naval Hospital.

Specializes in Adult Critical Care.

So, are you just finishing your junior year or just about to start it? You only need to do ROTC for 2 years to commission. That could be an option for you.

I am actually ending my junior year of college. I know it is kind of late in the ballgame to start to looking into this. I wish I would have known sooner that this is something that I wanted to do!

Thank you for your feedback! I have looked into the Nurse Candidate Program! Was it hard to get in to? I have heart that it is competitive.
