NAU FNP Summer 2019- anyone else?

Hello! I am hoping to find other nurses out there that have been accepted to the NAU FNP program- with a start date of summer/fall 2019! It would be great to have others to talk to that are in the same program. Speak up! ?

Hi,

After looking into many FNP schools I have decided to go with NAU part-time program. Looking forward to connecting with those who are also starting the program summer/Fall 2019.

Campfirekitten,

Which school did you decide to move forward with?

I am currently enrolled in the GCU MSN FNP program. Getting ready to begin my 3rd course, but I am actually wondering if this is the right program for me. I had a group project within my last course and had a horrible experience with one group member who plagiarized their portion of the project and the majority of DQ responses. The subjectivity of the instructors related to grading and this plagiarism incident have made me really question whether this is the best school for me. I recently began looking at other options; specifically NAU and Walden.

Good morning! I actually decided on GCU. I used them for my BSN and loved them. My main issue for the FNP was finding my own clinical placements- which NAU does for you, however, the ones I know that did NAU said the placements from Tucson were pretty far away. As far as GCU goes, I’ve had only one incident that was similar and could not be resolved through the professor, so I took it to the next level to my advisor and it was straightened out the same day. I think any school you go to can and will have professors and students that are a bit crooked. That being said though, there are good points about each too. Let me know how you decide to proceed! Have a great day!

It is reassuring to hear that others have been through a similar experience. I felt very discouraged after I had to involve the instructor and there was truly no further guidance offered on their part, as to how to proceed with the group’s final submission. I had thought that after the first course and answering a specific question addressing plagiarism that all students would be held accountable if this were to happen. Being the team’s leader put a lot of unnecessary stress on me.

I know quite a few RN’s that have completed the FNP program through GCU and they have had mostly positive feedback. However, a couple of my co-workers are currently enrolled in the program throughout Walden University and are equally as pleased. They also said that there are no group projects. However, all classes are on-line, which I find concerning especially for Advanced Phys, Patho, and Pharm.

Where are you at in the program? Have you begun your clinical rotations yet? Are you commuting from Tucson to the Phoenix campus one night per week for class? I am in the East valley and I am dreading the commute.

Hello all,

I was accepted into the full-time FNP program at NAU and start on June 3rd! I attended GCU for my BSN and was not impressed. The price of NAUs program compared to GCUs is a no brainer as well. I live in the central Phoenix area!

Im looking into applying to some FNP programs. I am mainly looking into NAU and GCU. What are some of the requirements and costs to both and which one did you feel made the most sense? Thanks

In just my experience with both- NAU was extremely disorganized and late with any information they stated they would get to me. And then when I received information- it was typically incorrect or was not at all the information I had been promised. I would write emails with detailed questions I even labeled 1, 2 and so on and after a week, I would get a “yes” or “no” response.... only one answer... and even when NONE of the questions I asked were yes/no questions. So honestly, I didn’t look into it any further there at NAU.

As for GCU- the only issue I have had was an advisor that went MIA as soon as he could not answer a financial aide/scholarship allocation question and left me hanging. However, I got hold of the manager of student services and he changed my advisor and was absolutely wonderfully helpful in getting me the answers I needed while my new advisor was being assigned.

Both of course required an app- with NAUs being more detailed and time intensive.

Of note- NAU has traditional semesters whereas the FNP at GCU is done one class at a time. NAU has one particular semester in which the two hardest classes are in the same one... advanced patho and advanced pharm. This would not be too horrid if the teachers and content matched... but my friend who did the NAU program said one teacher people be teaching cardiac patho and the pharm teacher would be teaching nephro meds.

So for whatever it is worth- that’s why I chose GCU

Hi! Would anyone be willing to comment on their experience with the FNP program with NAU so far? Thanks so much!

This is good to know! Here I am thinking that you can’t be do the FNP full-time if you don’t live in Flagstaff. Thanks for the update! Anybody in the program NAU/GCU willing to share their experience so far?

I am going to start the FNP track part time this Summer. Any advice?

Hey! Ya I finished last week! Honestly, I had a great experience with NAU. I did the full time track and it took about 23 months. Pretty busy for a while! Why so long for start?
