Hi, I've been a nurse since 2003. I am also certified as a Faith Community Nurse (Parish Nurse). For many years I worked very hard on a busy medical surgical floor and wore my back down to a bilateral fracture on my L5-S1 with multiple loss of disc in my lumbar, which is now just one vertebrae L1-L2 left.
Fast forward from 2012, when I discovered this fracture to now 2016,- 3 surgeries and 5 fusions later and a new outlook. I am very interested in going back to work but with a new philosophy of using Natural medicine and though I know it won't be in a hospital, no matter where I am I want to educate others on their options, so I need to be educated. Years ago I thought this was quacky. That is until I found our culture is to prescribe a pill for everything and then prescribe for all the side effects from the prescription. It's playing with fire to burn and I am not in.
Now I've been on both sides of the cure, experience taking pain medication and the natural approach. Today after 4 years and 3 spine surgeries and praying for direction and a leap of faith, I stopped taking pain medication and started trying natural things to help and reintroduced different modalities. Ice, heat, Arnica, Nerve Tonics, Water and being clued in to my body signals and it has really helped me without the harmful side effects. This is my opinion and what I've tried has worked for me and I understand it will not work for everyone. I feel better in my head and my heart. So naturally I want to educate others on their choices too but I don't know enough to qualify in sharing natural and alternative approaches and remedies. I recently purchased a wonderful reference book from Amazon called
Prescription for Natural Cures: A Self-Care Guide for Treating Health Problems with Natural Remedies Including Diet, Nutrition, Supplements, and Other Holistic Methods, Third Edition Paperback – February 23, 2016
Now I'd like to enroll in some courses recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing. I am not looking for another degree but certification if possible as an RN in naturopathy. Can anyone recommend a schools or a course? I would also be interested to know how many have taken courses already and their perception / analysis of what they learned. Was it helpful? Thanks - The TxhillsRN
How do I answer my own POL? lol
