Hello all!

Can anyone tell me about Hillcrest's hospital's L&D? Is it LDRP/LDR? What's the culture like at HH? My sister works at the main campus. I am thinking of returning to Cleveland. (In Baltimore now). I have an interview/share day . They seemed to have a lot of openings.

Hey how about those Browns! Go Browns!!

I know this may be getting to you late, and you may have had that interview already... but Hillcrest is a LDR birthing unit, and then they go to a seperate postpartum room. I teach OB clinicals for Cuyahoga Community College, and was just there in Oct-Dec. They have been VERY busy, so that is why there are so many positions posted for L&D. But then again, it fluctuates because we are there on the weekends and sometimes it's slower. Nursing staff are the same as other area hospitals (I have been to all the area OB units w/ students) some are nice, some are ******. I guess you get that everywhere, nurses being territorial or not wanting to remember what it felt like when THEY were a nursing student. Any other questions?

Sweet. Your reply is right on time...thanks a million. My interview is next week. Nursing is a journey and a lesson with more to offer for self development than ahem...the group (aka:the pack). What is their orientation like (how long) for the new nurse? PM if you can speak on any good preceptors. Oh and do they wear whites like the main campus?

Thanks again Mary. I graduated CCC in 2000 with a Biology AS.

No, the nurses wear purple scrubs that are provided by the hospital. I am not sure of the orientation process, as I do not have to do the same orientation as a staff member. But when I worked OB and NICU as a staff nurse, the orientations were usually more than adequate. You get paired one on one with a preceptor who shows you the job. I do not know who their L&D preceptors are, however I know that Lavada and Chris? (I think that's her name) were very nice to myself and the students. I was there on day shift. Their charge nurses were nice to me. I didn't have too much of a problem w/ their L&D staff, more so with the SCN staff. VERY territorial. Hope that helps.

I'll jump in here for a second, if that's ok. I went to Huron and did my OB clinicals at Hillcrest. My personal experience as a student was that the majority of the nurses on the mom & baby side of the unit were not particularly nice to us and mostly acted as though we were invading their space. But, the unit has changed considerably since I was there almost 2 years ago, and I'm not sure how many of those nurses are still there.

I'll give Lavada a huge vote as someone you would want for a preceptor. She is very, very nice, and all about educating whomever she is working with. I worked with her on the L&D side and had a terrific experience with her.

Wow, you all really came through for me. I really appreciate it. I am packing now to go for Wednesday. I will post on how it goes! Thanks!
