National University July 09 cohort

Published

Hi fellow soon to be nursing students! I just thought I'd start this thread so we can help each other out and maybe get to know one another. Obviously, from the title, I start in July, National University's nursing program. I'm excited and am working on all my shots/immunity's right now.

Hi, Im also starting in July 09! I cant wait! A little bit about me. My name is Angie. Im married and currently have a 2 month old son! I kept postponing my start date but i think im actually going to stick with July now! Does anyone know how the program actually works?

Hi Angie! My name is Amy and I'm also married with a 16 month old son. Congrats on your newborn. It seems to be difficult to find out much about National's nursing program, but I have a few friends that have already started so I've been able to ask a few questions. I'm not positive, but it seems that July is a night cohort which means we will probably be in our lecture (maybe labs) from about 5-9 or somewhere around there. Clinical (hospital rotations) can be at anytime regardless if you're night or day. The first class is just labs and I think the next class you start clinicals. So they get you started hands on right away. I'm really excited to get started!

hello amy! nice to meet you! im a little worried but im sure the program is doable! thanks so much for replying back to me right away! so you know how the teachers are? what kind of assignments? is it strictly exams and papers? i actually was asked to start in april but my dumb butt rejected it and then it was too late! i rejected it because i also got into a pa program but the problem is its in nyc! it would be hard for me to leave my baby and hubby behind even though pa is my ultimate dream! i still have a spot ready for august over there i decided to do nursing instead. hopefully its a good decision i made. a baby changes everything! but my son is worth it!

-do you know if classes are only held at the rancho bernardo campus or do they rotate between campuses? i live by the spectrum campus. i live in the del cerro / college area to be exact. ive lived in sd for a year. im from az.

i look forward to hearing from you again!

Unfortunately, I don't know much about the actual work... just that it's a lot! =) My friend said that the first class is very intense and difficult, but the 2nd class gets a little more manageable. Maybe they do that on purpose? I think most classses are at Rancho, but I'm not sure about that either. I actually live in the Temecula area so it's going to be quite a drive for me, but everything even somewhat close is at least a 2 year waitlist. Plus this is a BSN, not just associates so I figure it's worth it. Wow, NY would be far! That is the think though, a baby does change everything. I was in the process of doing a business degree when I got pregnant and realized that I didn't want to do that so decided to pursue nursing which was something I always wanted to do, but for different reasons, never did. I love San Diego, I wish we could move, but we have too much out here so it wouldn't make sense.

WOW, intense and difficult ..but im sure we'll be fine! I had a few classmates that were coming from temecula. It would be a drive but its worth it! I honestly think you made the right chose to do nursing rather than getting a business degree especially the way the economy is right now. San Diego is nice. We have too much out here as well and i think thats what also stopped me from moving to NYC. I couldnt trade living from a big beautiful house to a dirty studio. Im kinda worried for the nusing program though. Im glad i postponed it, atleast my baby will be a little older. We're thinking of a live in nanny or atleast a full time baby sitter. I do have alot of help out here too. Whos going to take care of your son while your at school?

another question...i just spoke to financial aid about tuition and she just confused me all the way! she kept mentioning different amounts and different tuition amounts? do you know what the exact tuition for the program is?i believe they told me it was about $41k but she said there’s always fees involved on top of that? i’m confused!! maybe you can help me out!

My understanding was that the program came out to about $40K, but that included everything, tuition, books, uniforms... don't know exactly we will have to pay though... class by class or some other way. I do believe you will want to be ready up front with at least $2000 because there is an amount you need to pay right away, I think for uniforms and some other things. I have been really happy with Nation so far, but that is the bad thing, information is HARD to come by!!

Also, you probably already have read it, but there is another thread that has been ongoing forever where some April students are talking about what they are doing. You may want to check it out if you haven't already... https://allnurses.com/pre-nursing-student/national-university-san-219120-page29.html#post3454232

also , does anyone know if national will be offering a masters in nursing in the near future?
