Hi, All,
Can anyone that has been accepted in the past to NCC explain/clarify something? The majority of my pre-reqs for Nassau were taken at Nassau during the last 3 years. I started taking my pre-reqs in '06 and I am now ready to apply. Nassau accepted 3 classes that I took back in 1986 -- yes, 86. So they are 23 years old. However, the classes transferred in are some that are required pre-reqs for Nursing (2 English classes and a Pscy) - -I was under the impression all along that I was working with my GPA from Nassau -- not the previous classes. The grades are good B, B+ and an A. However, if they are applied to my Nassau GPA, they bring it down. Has anyone applied with the same situation? And, if so, do the grades transferred affect your GPA? Sorry to sound so dumb, but I've gotten different stories (even from NCC). Help!

Hi,
I had many classes that I took at a different college that were part of the pre or corequisites for nursing. Those grades do not count towards your actual Nassau average, but they do get counted (with whatever grade you got) for admission to the nursing program. My gpa from the 12 classes I took at Nassau was 4.0, but my gpa for admission to nursing was 3.9 because of those classes from my previous degree. The 3.9 didn't appear on my transcript, but that's the number they based my admission on.
Good luck.
Thanks for the clarification, I appreciate it. Good luck to you, also.

Same thing down here in FL @ FCCJ. My original degree was 1979 -1984. They transferred some of my applicable courses. Calculus replace the College Algebra requirement. I got a "B" in my calculus classes. I could have aced College Algebra but never needed to take it. Psych transferred, I had an "A". They used another course to fill the "elective" and that was a "B". I took ENC1101 because I CLEP'd out of 6 credits in English back in 79...but this school would have considered that a "C". :icon_roll
Good luck in your application!
Thanks for your response. I'm really, really anxious/excited about my application. I've waited so long to get to this point. I've wanted to do this since I was 14 -- I'm now 45!!! I went back to school when my youngest son started kindergarten in '06. I'm nervous because if I don't get accepted, I'll be crushed and frustrated. I'll have to figure out a plan "B". I'm going to think positive though, because my grades from NCC are excellent. 2 of the 3 being transferred in are good, but not "stellar". I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for your good wishes. Good luck to you as well!

The policy for Nassau CC as far as gpa to get into the program is taken from the grades you received only for the four pre req classes (eng, psych, a&p I, and math)that you need in order to apply for the program..that's it. So look only at those grades any other grades wether there from Nassau or anywhere else do not go towards the entry gpa.
Modi,
Thanks for the response, but according to the nursing dept and student advisors that I've spoken with in the past 3 years (and more importantly) the last 2 weeks, ALL classes that apply to the nursing program -- that have been taken are calculated toward your GPA.
I know the necessary 4 classes that you mentioned above, of course, are considered the necessary pre-reqs, but in reality, NCC is looking for students with excellent GPA's and many more classes under their belts.
Please don't take offense to this note, I just wouldn't want you or anyone else to think that any other classes "don't count" after the necessary 4 listed. THEY ALL COUNT -- if they apply to the degree for nursing.
Good luck to you!
