Hi, all! Anywhere go to school/work near the Nashville area?? -S

Yes, there are a lot of schools and a couple of McDonald's you can work at too. No really, be a little more specific and you'll probably get more people to reply with better answers. You can also do specific searches with google.com. I live in the Nashville area, so if you have a specific question, I'll probably be able to help.

There are multiple options for nursing education and employment in the Nashville area. Of course your choices may be narrowed by the level of education you desire and what sort of work you are looking for in the area.

One way or another, be prepared for lots of crazy drivers & plenty of traffic. I lived there until 5 years ago & every time I go to visit my brother I return to my home ever grateful that I don't live there anymore.

eltrip- this has nothing to do with the OP- but I'm getting ready to leave Nashville-(finally) and move back home to Northern Virginia- I'm glad you're glad you left ;) To where have you escaped?

Hi, Eltrip!

Thanks for your response!! I was starting to think I might not hear from anyone! :)

I currently live in Smyrna and I've been knocking around this nursing thing for awhile but without much luck as far as a decision goes. Have a pretty good job now, I guess (money's ok, it's stable and close to home), but it's not very interesting and I have to deal with a bunch of smart-a$$ men all day whose only goal in life, every day, is to poke fun at me or annoy me in some way. Oy. :uhoh3:

ANYWAY, was considering the ADN program. Are there certain schools employers tend to look more favorably on?? I'm married, complete with house/car payments, etc., too, so if you've got any suggestions as to how I can AFFORD it, I'd LLOOVVEE to hear them!

Thanks again!

:)

Check out TSU's online program. With the need to work full-time, an online program might be in your best interest. The board of regents lists several educational opportunities available online with community colleges & BOR universities.

If you can get a job in one of the area hospitals, go for it. It'll be a great learning experience!

Good luck!

I've heard that some hospitals will help pay off student loans, etc. in exchange for x years of service. Is this a pretty common practice??

Vanderbilt reimbursed 50% of my tuition for my program & I promised to work for them for at least 2 years...of course I was working for them to begin with, so it was a sweet deal for everyone concerned. I worked for them for nearly 4 years after graduating. If I lived in Nashville, I'd work there again in a heartbeat.

I just moved to Nashville for my summer hiatus from school. I just got a parttime job at FedEx ground. Not a bad job. And, for every hour you work they will give you $1.00 for school up to $1500 a semester. Start pay they said was $9.50, but I talked them up to $10.00 and keep in mind there is no state tax.

Everyone there said it is a bad job but it really is not that bad. All you do is load boxes on a truck. Anyone can do that.

Also, because of the money for school I was say about 50% of the employees are college students.

Let me know if you have any questions.
