My Narcolepsy is now under control, which is why I am trying again. I hadn't been diagnosed when I first applied to nursing school at 19, so I had no idea why I was SO tired and foggy all the time. I changed my major to Clinical Laboratory Science and still graduated. Now I am being treated for Narcolepsy and am feeling like I can finally take this on. I work in a blood bank and am around nurses all the time and I can't shake the feeling that I am supposed to be one. I go up to the floor to draw blood even though I don't have to, just so I can get patient contact. I like working in the lab, but I know nursing is what I was meant to do. I have now been given the ability to get through such a rigorous program, something that Narcolepsy took away from me. I hope to eventually become a nurse practitioner and specialize in neurology or sleep medicine and help people like myself who have Narcolepsy because a lot of health care providers don't understand it, which is why it is such an underdiagnosed disorder.

Okay so my original college major was nursing. I changed it to Clinical Laboratory Science because I didn't get into the nursing program. I then graduated and now work in a blood bank at a hospital lab. The problem is I really wish I worked with patients and stuck with my dream in the first place. I was diagnosed with narcolepsy after I graduated and realized that was the reason for my low GPA. I just couldn't stay awake during my classes and graduated with a 2.9. It's not horrible but it's not great. Anyone have any advice on what ABSN programs to apply to or what to do to help my GPA?
Thanks!
