Nannying during nursing school

Whether being nanny will work well for you or not will depend on the specific expectations of the employer. Will you be expected to "drop everything" and take care of their child if you are needed at the last minute? If so, that probably won't work as you can't suddenly skip class or clinical to be at the beck and call of your employer. You'll need something with regular, predictable hours that match your needs as a student.

Will the employer allow you to bring your child with you to work? If your child is sick? etc.

You'll just have to explore the possibilities and see if you can find someone looking for childcare who can accommodate your needs as a student and mother. We can't answer that for you.

I nanny/babysit and LOVE it! It's really nice to 'pick and choose' my hours. I have 3-5 families I consistently babysit for, and I just tell them at the beginning of each semester that I won't commit to a certain amount of hours ahead of time, and that we'll take it week by week. Then I can adjust the hours I work depending on what my school load is that week. The key for that is to find families that don't need you to work set hours (or if so, hours that truly work for you) so that both of you can be flexible. I use the sittercity.com website to find families, and it's nice because I get to put my price on there, which means only families who are willing to pay my 'high price' offer me jobs! I have found some of my best and most high paying families on it, and it's free.

In addition to this I work a per diem job at the hospital (not patient related) which is nice because I also get to 'pick and choose' what days I'm going to cover, and I know my schedule months ahead of time.
