Name: BMCC, New York, NY

Program: ASN

Full-time, evening

Current Term: Last semester before nursing sequence

Nursing Admission Test: HESI A2

Pros: Cheap tuition, decent professors, location, class schedule flexibility, ease of use of online systems, professors don't require latest edition for textbooks, knowledge gained, completion in 3 years

Cons: Admin in need of overhaul, nobody knows anything and frequently sends you to the wrong place, immature and rude students, PowerPoint professors, atmosphere, cleanliness, self-taught in some classes, no summer nursing course, not enough online courses

Recommend: Yes, if you're disciplined and don't require hand holding

Name and city/state: UAB – The University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL

Program: BSN (we also have DNP, PhD, MSN, Accelerated MSN, CRNA, RN -> BSN)

Day or Evening: BSN is typically day, unless the clinical runs into the evening

Current term: applying this semester for the Fall 2015 term

Nursing Admission Test: none that I know of…

Pros: affiliated university hospital (level 1 trauma center), faculty are involved in research, program is well known in the area, grad program is ranked nationwide (#24 I think?)

Cons: not a lot of evening course options (pre-requisite and nursing school courses) for full-time workers and night owls like me =)

Would you recommend this school: yes! UAB is a great school. It is affordable and the program is well known. The campus is very healthcare oriented,” meaning that a lot of students are studying towards the health sciences (Pre-med, pre-OT, pre-PT, etc.). High school students can apply for a guaranteed seat in the School of Nursing, provided that they hold a minimum GPA (around 3.2). Also the prerequisite courses are very well equipped; the anatomy students use cadavers =)
