My story

Published

Hi all! I am from NC and just stumbled across these stories.....I wanted to share mine. Back in 2016 I was caught for diverting narcotics for myself x2 yrs. I started the Alternative program and was successful until 3 months before I was actually going to be done with the program and was selected for a drug screen, and tested positive for alcohol. I never even liked alcohol. Just 2 days before I decided to buy a couple bottles of wine and finish them. Ultimately, my license were suspended in April 2020. After that, I started drinking more. Not every day, but probably every weekend. I was still passing drug screens because now I have to show a year of sobriety to the BON to even be considered for reinstatement. Well, February 2021, selected for a blood test and of course tested pos again. Another year of waiting....here I am last week and received a letter from the BON stating now you only have to show 6 months of sobriety. This is a blessing, but of course, I can't help but be bitter. Is this due to the nursing shortage? The world setting healthcare on fire? When I was pleading for my license they never once batted an eye of decreasing time......anyway, I have been in IOP and aftercare ever since March 2021 and I have been completely sober. I am turning in the wonderful sobriety notebook in 2 weeks. Since there will be permanent marks on my license, do you guys have any suggestions of job opportunities. I have done dialysis and loved it, but the hours and weekends are a nuisance. Also, I have 10 years experience in a hospital, I do not want to go back to that. Thanks for any insight!

Hi, I am also in NC.

I am working in the hospital on a PCU which is now the covid unit.

I was already working here in the OR when I entered the program, so the hospital accommodated me in another dept.

I don't really have any advice but wanted to send you love and good vibes:)
