My sense of smell is very sharp

How would you handle "unpleasant" odors without gagging. My husband teases me that I will never make it? Nice huh:scrying:

You will overcome it but here's a trick. Cinnamon candy or chew some cinnamon gum for a few minutes and discard it. The smell will be a lot less, trust me.

Thanks so much, that is the one thing that I am terrified of:chuckle :chuckle

Some of the students use VICKS Vaporub under their noses to help with the smell.

You will learn to tune out the smell, after a while. In the meantime, vicks is wunnerful. That said, getting the TASTE of the smell gone, now that is just god-awful! Cinnimon candy, a smoke (in my case LOL), whatever it takes.

Had one of these insanely odiferous patients Saturday night, and if I let myself think about it, I can STILL mentally smell it . I'm talking the bleed smell, for those who understand. Makes poop and vomit completely unnoticable unless it's severely abnormal.

LOL welcome to nursing!

I too keep a little jar of Vicks in my locker. But I smear it on the inside of a mask and don the mask. You get the nice aroma going but only for as long as you need it, not the rest of the shift. None of that inside the nose burning sensation (am I alone on that one?).

Follow up after the source of odoris gone with a little Vanilla hand lotion and it makes life much nicer.
