My orientation today1

Nursing Students General Students

Published

It went great! After being super excited all week, I found that I had major butterflies in my tummy :uhoh3: while in line to get handbooks, parking pass, freebie bags, iteinerary, etc. We covered everything from personal safety, substance abuse which some of the stats re: nurses and this was shocking to me, school online info system, presentation by RN computer guru who even gave us her personal cell phone number to call her ANYTIME for assistance, took a tour of the campus as the school is located on a major level 1 med center, had an awesome catered lunch, met with our SOS partners (students offering support), and just really felt welcomed by all of the staff and faculty.

Members of the student senate and SOS also each gave their top 3-4 suggestions for having a successful semester. Of course the main one was organization, recommended 1.5 inch binders w/ dividers for each class, planners, set aside time for non- nursing thoughts/activities, etc. We even have a rec room with bikes & treadmills, tv, etc.

Overall, I am in for a LOT of work, ready for the challenge, and feel that I am at the right nursing program for myself!! I have tomorrow off, thank goodness so I can organize, print off syllabi's, get binders purchased and start reading all those chapters for next week :yeahthat: .

Thanks for reading, I was too excited to not share.

Good to hear that you got through your first day DBev. I know that the information can be overwhelming, but it seems like you are processing it all just nicely. Sounds like you are in a good program too. The fact that they take time to partner you with other students is a great idea. (The catered lunch alone impresses me.:p ) And yes, organization will get you a long way in nursing school. I could not live without my planner, highlighers, and tabs (such a nerd:specs:).

Happy reading, it's sounds as if you are starting off on the right foot! Good luck to you, and let us know how it goes.
