My mother has coprophagia

Published

I just found out my mother has coprophagia and scatolia which I had never heard of until the care givers told me. I don't even know how to handle this information. I can't fathom my own mother doing this even though her dementia has been progressively getting worse over the last year or so....I never saw this coming. Her mind still seems sharp and you can even make her laugh but this........

Where does her dementia go from here? What are other health professionals doing to treat this? Is this a sign of her mind shutting down so to speak? She is only 77 and in good physical shape with no other health issues but I am worried about how long she might have. Any information or experience with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello,

This is something that we cannot help you with as it is giving medical advice.

You need to speak with her healthcare providers in order to better understand the diagnosis(s).

We hope you get the information you need and can be able to continue to assist in the care for you mother.
