My desire to be a nurse

Published

Hello, I really need some advice becasue in alll honesty i am really scared about pursuing nursing school even though that is what i want to do. I am 22 years old and i have been in school since 2008 but ive had to repeat engish and history more than once so yea starting off i had a rough couple of years. But i finally decided that i wanted to be a RN. I will be transfering to Lamar University where you need a 2.5 or higer to get in.I m basically going on faith. I have not taken my major science classes lile A&P , micro or chemistry or patho. I have tooken and passed nutrition and development of lifespan and i also have not taken my HESI TEST. So i feel pretty good about getting in .The rest of the prereqs as far as like government and non science classes i have passed.I do plan on doing awesome in the major classes. So my question is do i have a chance, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE REPEATED ALOT OF CLASSES?

The fact that you have repeated classes in and of itself doesn't necessarily mean that you can't get accepted into a nursing school. However, I would have to ask you WHY you needed to repeat classes? Was the content so far over your head that it took 2 tries to learn it?

Were you in a "party" phase of life but are ready to buckle down now?

Acceptance into nursing school is a very competitive process. Even though a minimum GPA is 2.5, most applicants may not be anywhere near that. They may be well ABOVE that 2.5 GPA. Those folks will be your competition.

Then there's the fact that taking classes more than once is potentially a very expensive proposition. Nursing school is expensive all by itself. Taking classes twice would make it prohibitively so. As I said in the beginning, much depends upon the reasons why you had to repeat classes.
