My baby has lice

Published

The school nurse called this morning and told me my 8 year old had lice. AHHHHHHHHHH! We have stripped all bedding, vacumed the mattresses (ours, hers and our son's,) put all stuffed animals in garbage bags and treated with rid. It took me a total of 5 hours to comb through her hair today. I don't see any nits in my son's or husband's hair and called my girlfriend over to look at mine. (None, thank God.) So my question is, what else should I do? I think she got this from camp a couple weeks ago, should I call the troop leader. I am overwhelmed right now.:o

Actually the nits live in the pupa stage for 7-10 days. Do as previously recommended and you and your child will be fine.

WHAT A DRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGG!! I had to deal w/ lice on my 2 sons about 4 years ago - I remember when I first found out I just thought- there is no way I can handle this - the vigilance is so time consuming. And then I GOT THEM TOOO!!! Oh man it was so gross!!

But I did the things everyone has already told you here all good advice: the crisco- shower caps, blow drying, tea tree oil shampoo (in fact we used it for years after that) nitpicking EVERY night and HOT water washing all bedding clothing etc every day....We won!!!!

But now we really do laugh about it! In fact my son came home with a letter TODAY from his high school that there had been a case of head lice reported and he came in and said - "Mom, I think you better sit down..."

We had a good laugh-

Time to break out some Tea Tree Oil Shampoo again I guess - this time for prevention.

But definitely let everyone know. I only discovered my sons had 'em when my younger son casually mentioned - oh Mom T & S (neighbors/playmates) have some kind of bugs on their heads!!!! I wish their Mom had just told me!

GOOD LUCK - this too shall pass....
