too much???

I am on my 3 1/2 week summer break, before I continue my accelerated nursing program. I will be taking med/surg 1, pharm 2, peds, and some professional role class. All in about 8 weeks or so :stone.

I am so terrified. But also extremely excited!!

My pharm class is going to be crazy insane. We have the same instructor from pharm 1, and we had some issues with him during that time and I just have a feeling that he is going to make pharm super tough. So I feel like I should start studying now. I have a syllabus for the class, and I know what we will be covering.

Should I start studying now, or is that too much? Should I be enjoying my break and relaxing, since I will be extremely busy once school actually starts?? I don't know what I should do. I should also add that even though this is a lecture class, we all pretty much teach ourselves because the instructor doesn't teach, he just reads straight from the book as fast as he possibly can. (yeah, we complained about it and the dean is looking for a pharmacist or someone better qualified)

Any advice would be appreciated!! :nuke:

Definitely take your much needed break from studying and relax! By the sound of your class load, it doesn't seem like you will be having much time to relax when classes start up again. I know it's hard to let yourself take a break from studying, but seriously DO it! I only got 2 weeks off in between each of my semesters in nursing school and I always made sure to not even think about school or studying and I found myself still being worn out by the end of each semester so even the little amounts of time off are worth it. Good luck with the rest of your program and have a great break from everything- you deserve every minute of it! :yeah:

i always start studying when i get the syllabus: it depends on your personality. i enjoy free time because there's no pressure to the studying. i start on papers and readings etc. and for me it really eases the tension but i'm obsessive that way. and it adds to enjoying the break. good luck with your next classes. !!

Why can't you do a little of both? Study a little, so that you can get ahead a bit, but also take some time to relax. Take at least a few days that are devoted solely to non-nursing things. Spend a few days at the beach or go see a movie or two, or get some house work done. Relax a little. But also spend a few days studying, getting ahead in school.

thanks for all the advice!

thank you!!! this is me almost verbatim. i cant think straight if i know i have something big coming and i'm not doing anything about it. but then while i have a degree in it already, i havent started nursing school. i did do a lot of prep for my programming degree and it helped in the long run. nothing crazy, but familiarized myself with the courseload (flipped through the book, played with cds, started a fresh read of the book, etc)

i know that if i had my stuff and knew it was going to be a toughy i would definitely get some time in. nothing crazy paced, maybe just taking my book to the beach to read while i lay in the sun or while lounging in bed late in the mornings or whatever.

for what its worth, i took this attitude with my pax test, and out of 35 people who took the test, not only was i 1 of only four who passed, but i got a 99% on mine...the highest one in the class. it was worth being overly obsessive to me to see that grade and know that i had earned it. but i'm a bit obsessive that way. i cant stand passing, i worked so hard to get where i am that i feel an overwhelming need to excel, yk?

oh, yes, i do know!! i have previous schooling also but for me nursing school is harder than any other degree program i completed: because i'm working ft, ns is nights/weekends and there's sooo much info. its really exciting and worth the hard work. first term at my school is referred to as 'nursing school boot camp' for obvious reasons :)

sounds like you have plenty time to get your bearings with your new courses. aside from the obsessiveness, the new books are always too exciting to let just sit there waiting...seems like a waste !!!

and i congratulate you on your 99 on that exam. great!! reading/looking at cds etc. now will make a difference to you.

enjoy---my 2nd term ended fri and 3rd term started the very next mon; but that was one well appreciated weekend, sunburn and all :)
