i'm moving to perth in a month and i'm starting to look about for jobs. I graduated in 2004, and have just finished a 12 month grad position. i'd like to end up in pediatrics, and would love to work in a big childrens hospital like the princess margaret, but do i need to complete further education before i can work in peds? i've been told conflicting things, so if you can shed some light on this, i'd be very grateful!
bump. help!

Hi there!
Im originally from Perth, been living in London for the last 3.5 years. Ive just got a job with the Women and Childrens health service (Princess Margaret Hospital and King Edward memorial hospital) I have further qualifications in Neonatal Intensive care so I will be working mainly and King Eddies, but rotating to surgical neonates at PMH. I am 99% sure you dont need any further education just your nursing qualification.
I know they have recently advertised for nurses to do the neonatal certificate...they only want people with 12 months nursing experience, doesnt matter if you havent done paeds before so I am sure you will have no problem getting a job in whatever area you want.
They advertise for jobs on http://www.jobs.wa.gov.au or you can visit the women and childrens health service.
I just sent a resume to them, telling them where I wanted to work.
Goodluck and I hope to see you around!

Hi,
Just saw this thread, hope I'm not too late.
I'm not certain about PMH, but most tertiary hospitals now offer 2nd year grad programmes.
Here is a good place to start.

PMH are doing a huge recruitment drive at the moment. There are adds in all the papers.
I'm sure you won't need any extra qual's - they will happily train you.
Good luck and:welcome: to WA
