Moving from USA with family. Where for good work and life

Published

Hi all. I'm a BSN graduate with experience in the ICU, my husband is a BSN with experience in ED finishing his nurse practitioner. We have 3 kids and are planning to move to Canada for good. I'm looking for experiences of American nurses who moved there. Where is a good place to move. We want not too harsh of a Winter but close to the ski resort ish. Rural is cool with us. We were thinking Alberta or Ontario (mostly cause they have more French immersion schools for the kids) any experience or ideas is appreciated. We are still about a year away from being able to move and are starting the paper work. I've read everything about the needed paper work so I'm not worried about that.

Thanks in advance

Shannon

Not much skiing in Ontario... in Alberta skiing is mostly in the Rockies. If you prioritize skiing there are not too many options because the land East of the Rockie Mountains are mostly flat. Look into rural British Columbia. If you prioritize French Immersion then Ontario would be your best bet. There will also be more NP jobs there.

It’s an election year south of the 49th. Be ready or more of these posts.

We never hear back if they move. Over the years there’s been maybe three Americans who have actually made the move, two that I remember married Canadians.

I've put my application in and an just starting the long process. I was wondering what the salaries are usually after taxes are taken out. I'm trying to see what kind of adjustments I need to make as I'm making pretty good money here. Do you like it there? Are things a lot more expensive? I'm still really wanting to move even if it's for a few years so my kids can become citizens and have the options of their colleges.

Thank you
