Moving to upstate NY in the next year...ED Nurse

Published

I plan on moving to upstate NY...Syracuse area or north and was interested in best places to work, magnet hospitals, salaries etc. ED nurse with over 15 years hospital experience.

Specializes in Trauma/Surgery ICU.

St. Joseph's in Syracuse is currently expanding their ED. From what I've heard they have the best pay in the area. They do a lot of ortho, cardiac (they're huge on vascular surgeries), birthing center. Then there's Crouse Hospital - I think they're working on Magnet status right now. They're big on NICU and high risk labor/delivery and have a lot of general neuro/medicine/cardiac patients - mostly med-surg (not a lot of critical besides their NICU). SUNY Upstate is a level I trauma and a teaching institution. They do all the peds in the area and pretty much everything else - (besides maternal/OB). You'd be a state employee so the benefits are good, but I think the pay is a bit lower than the other two hospitals. As a new grad they're starting me at 41K plus shift diff. I know it's low, but so is the cost of living. I know people who are nurses at all three of these hospitals and they all seem to enjoy their jobs. It depends on what you're looking for. Let me know if you have specific questions. Good luck.

Specializes in Education.

I worked at Crouse Hospital for four years, in the O.R. I liked working there, not sure about the E.R. But University gets all the level one trauma, gsw, etc.

Hope you like snow!!:)
