Moving down South!

Published

Hi,

I am a going to be entering my 4th year of my BScN program in the fall and am beginning to think of the future. I am a Nursing student who goes to St. francis Xavier Universtiy in Nova Scotia Canada. I would really love to work in North Carolina as I hear it is a beautiful state. Can anyone recommend a nice area of the state for a young 22 year old to work in? I am wanting good experience and a friendly atmosphere. Also like a lot of young Canadian nurses I want good pay. I would preferably like to live in a area that is either near water or not a far drive from the ocean.

If there are any Canadian nurses who would be willing to talk with me a couple of time through e-mail, I would love to know how one gets started with the process of finding a job, and work visas.

Thanks a lot!

I am not a Canadian, so I can't tell you much about visas, but I am from Wisconsin (brrrr) so I can understand why you want to move south! I am moving to NC in a month. I chose NC because it is really beautiful. Like you, I wanted to live by the water. Someone told me about Wilmington, and I went there last week. I loved it! I got a job! I liked everyone I met there, and I think there is a lot to do! It is really different than here, where you can only do things outside 3 months out of the year. Pay is a little less there than here, but cost of living may have something to do with that. I am about your age, so we probably have some similar interests, and I don't think I will ever get bored there. good luck!

Wake Medical Center, Raleigh Community Hospital (part of Duke) and Rex Hospital are all in the Raleigh area. You are about 2 hours from the mountains, and 2 hours from the beach.

I live in Wilmington, NC at the beach. The hospital here is New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

hi! i'm graduating from Dalhousie in spring 2007 and wanting to move to nc after i graduate. did you decide to move there for sure? how has the job hunt been? and for anyone else reading the post, if you live near the ocean. aren't you concerned about hurricanes/flooding?
