Moving to San Antonio......advice on hospitals

U.S.A. Texas

Hello all,

I am going to be relocating to the San Antonio area and have found there is a large number of health systems and hospitals. I find this somewhat overwhelming and was hoping to gain some insight or feedback anyone may have. I have my RN, BSN with 2 1/2 years of step-down experience and a few months of MICU experience. I am hoping to apply to an ICU or ER, if anyone has an opinion on either of those areas as well. I thank you very much in advance!

I am a newish nurse and I work at Methodist. I work in the ED. Its hectic, but I work with great people. The new management seems to want to make it a great place to work. I know some of my fellow recent graduates also work here in different depts. They all seem happy except one or two who work on the med/surg area. They start new grads out at $20 but if you have exp, the pay does go up.

And even though we are not the county hospital ( University), we see a LOT of heart attacks and strokes. We just dont see much trauma. I was told when I was hired that Methodist ED was the only No divert hospital in SA. Since I have been there we have not closed our doors to any ambulance or person, no matter how many are stacked up. Also, we dont have patients waiting in the ED for 24+ hrs.:D

Is it the perfect place to work? Nope. But I doubt there is an utopia out there.

I need your help in the form of advice. I am really stressed out in the middle of working for two companies. One is Metropolitan Methodist Hospital's ED. Are you still there and could you give me any advice on this place, location, position? Did you like it, are you happy, is the staff out to get you type of attitude or is it team work? I am sure you are a busy person and your help is really really appreciated. I have to make a decision ASAP and I am so stressed out. I am not from the area and don't have people I can ask. Thanks!

Also, how is the evaluation/pay raise from nurse 2 to nurse 3?:wideyed:

an what is the difference bwt a nurse recruiters , agency, and HR????? would they not be the same?? or if you work for an agency you get pay less ?? don't know the answer......

How about an experience charge nurse????? would it be 28/ $29 !!!!!! hum.....

Do you have any recommendations for apart around those hospital ???? would any of the medical center , shavano, la cimas, park hill, the preserve, best tree, sundance, oack terrace, platinum shavano, bella madera, etc..... any ideas..... or would one rent from a private home ?? any suggestions ?????? thank....

Which places or area would you recommend to stay at around the medical center?????or would one be looking at shavano park, thery hills, castles hills?????? tks...

I'm just coming across this post and I was wondering if it is still the same case for new grads at Christus? I'm really excited to start there and I want to know that i'm making the right choice.

I am a new grad at Christus Santa Rosa downtown. As far as I know Christus isn't a lower paying hospital. I am getting paid 2 1/2 dollars more an hour than my peers who went to Baptist and Methodist. I was always told during school that Christus was one of the higher paying hospitals???

Christus Versant residency starts at $24.80 hourly.

Hi all! I have almost 2.5 years tele experience and looking to switch specialties and also increase my pay. Can anyone give me an idea of what pay I can ask for with this experience in San Antonio?
