I have been talking to a hospital in a different state and they want to do an in person interview. They are aware that I am about 1200 miles away. Is this normal when looking for jobs in another state?
How do you handle this? I told them the earliest I can be in the state is late March or early Easter because we are expecting a baby in February.
I honestly prefer to do a video interview and then if offered, spend my trip time searching for a place to live. It seems to be better use of my time and money.
I have never done this before so any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated.
I don't know how early April got autocorrected to early Easter. Smh.

I did a phone interview when I lived across country from the job. I think it is a waste of time and money to do it in person if you don't get the job. If you are moving there regardless of if you get the job or not, then you may as well go but by April they may have hired someone else if they need to fill that position sooner, so you may need to just wait until you move. If you are intending to move based on this job, that is different. I would look into a travel position where you are wanting to go. Then you will be able to "test drive" the area and job search easily. If that is not feasible, continue talking to them and ask if they can do a first interview over the phone or skype and then a second in person. You will get a better feel for the manager that way.
Personal advice you may not really need but others may- do not tell a new job you are about to have a baby. Or just did, or ever did. They aren't supposed to discriminate, but if they are interviewing you and someone who will not be sleep deprived and possibly call in because their kid is sick who will they hire? After you are hired it is a different story, but never before.
I did a first interview over the phone already and it went really well. I have thought about taking a travel job as well. I'm just not sure what the right way to go about this is.
It's turning out to be more difficult than I expected.
