Moving from OK to NY

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hello, NY! My family and I are making plans to move to the Saratoga Springs/Glens Falls area. After reading many of the NY threads I have some questions. Who do I contact to acquire a NY RN license? Anyone know the reciprocity rules? Are NY facilities unionized? And, (the popular question) what is the average pay in up-state area?

I have 14+ yrs as an RN, 13 in L&D and 1 in Psych, all in the state of Oklahoma. We don't have any union and, after all these yrs, I don't even make a base pay $25/hr.

Any words of encouragement? Thanks...GinnaM :)

You can contact:

NYS Division of Professional Licensing Service

Cultural Education Center

albany, New York 12230

518 234 3344

or you can go on-line to the Department of Education, Professional licensing Division.

You should be eligible for reciprocity. You can download an application. You must have Domeestic Violence and Infection Control CEUs. You can obtain them thru the New York State Nurses Association, via their website. Most of the hospitals, in the Capitol District area are not unionized, although 1199 and NYSNA are working to change that. The area you are moving to, is located off the Northway I87. It is a direct road down to the Albany area which has additional opportunities. Sorry, I can't help you with the hourly rate.

Thank you so much! It's a start for me. I've been stuck in Oklahoma for over 20 yrs and will be moving closer to home and my family in N.E. w/o everyone being right next door. I do have a cousin up be Glens Falls, and we get along real well.

If anyone can give me any idea of what the average income is in that area that would be wonderful. I've read a lot about the southern part of New York and NYC. Seems like they do okay there.

Again, thank you. :balloons:
