Moving to OK city

I am in UCO (UNiversity of Central Oklahoma) nursing school. If you call up there and talk with Brenda Brent she can give you the low-high of the GPAs that were from selected students as well as the average, I do know it is getting higher every year. She is very helpful and could go over your transcript with you and tell you what you need to do to get in.

Oh, we also are accepting nursing applicants EVERY semester now instead of just once a year!

Hello, I live currently in Portland, Oregon, I have a BS fromn Portland State University and plan to go to move to Norman and attend nursing school, so far I have heard that several schools do not take the AandP classes, they only take anatomy and physiology separately. I am applying to OU, OKstate, OCentralU, OKCCC and Rose State. do any of you think that I have a chance of getting into any of these schools? my overall GPA is 2.80 and my prereq gpa is about 3.3 or 3.5.

any info would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance

I do know that OU has been advising applicants to take A & P separately and that the combined A&P courses may not transfer - but I don't know how they determine whether or not they actually will or will not transfer. It may be a case by case basis and I would suggest you call each school's nursing program advisement office to evaluate your transcript and advise you. I attend OCU (Oklahoma City University) and at this time, they do accept the combined A&P course.

What is your BS in?

From personal experience, I think it will be challenging to get into a program with an overall 2.8, but definitely not impossible. Since this will be a 2nd degree, will you be applying to the Accelerated BSN at OU? Also, I'm not knowledgeable about how competitive admissions for ADN programs like Rose and OKCCC are.

I think my GPA was around 2.83 when I began the application process last spring - my science GPA was a 3.6 and my GPA from 2004-2006 (after an 8 year haitus from school) was 3.47. However, my 'old' GPA was still holding me back to that 2.83 and virtually no school was willing to look past it... until I talked to OCU and was accepted (provisionally, provided I maintain a 3.0 in the nursing program).

With a BS already, you may have a totally different experience and I'm not saying that you can't get into a program, just be prepared for the challenge and you may need to ensure your application is strong in other areas (like test scores or recommendation letters, etc.). And again, you may have a competitive advantage over others with your BS - I just don't really know.

If you are open to suggestions, I would also recommend talking to OCU (Oklahoma City University : Kramer School of Nursing) about both their traditional and Bachelor's-to-BSN programs. Their tuition is sky-high but I've received financial aid and scholarships to make it more manageable. I was initially disappointed about not getting into OU or UCO (where I took all of my prereqs and really liked the school), but now I couldn't be happier where I am at OCU. :balloons:

Sergiol- 1st welcome to Oklahoma! 2nd, I can offer my history. I have a BA in Communication Studies, my current overall GPA is a 2.947, and it should go up a tad since I just finished an intersession class and got an A. But I was accepted to the OU accelerated program in Tulsa, my science GPA is a 4.0 right now. OU has a new requirement that all science GPAs must be over a 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 2.5 overall. I hope that helps :)

Also, just an FYI, with you being in Norman, OU's nursing program is actually in OKC or in Tulsa (which is too far for you to commute too!) I have heard great things about OKCU and UCO, both of which would be within a good distance for you to travel. Not far at all. I know that OKCU has a second degree program like OU, so you may want to look into both of those programs.
