Moving to a new unit

How do I know when I am ready to move to a new, more acute unit?

I've been a nurse for almost a year now and work on a general medicine unit. I have mixed feelings about my unit. On one hand, I have learned a lot and continue to learn, but on the other hand, the tasks that I need to do on my unit have become routine and boring. I would love to do something like ICU or PACU but I don't know whether I have the skills/experience to do it. What do you think?

You could try the float pool if your facility has one. I found even ICU became routine and boring after a while. (But that's not why I left). I liked PACU because you only have the patient 1 - 2 hours, it seems like there is more variety. You're hours are usually Mon to Fri, 7 ish to 4 ish, closed holidays and weekends, but you may have to be on call during the off hours.
