Hi

I am an LPN with 17+ years of experience in LTC, Rehab and TBI. We are moving to Surfside Beach, SC in January 2008. I am looking for information relating to working in the area, salary ranges and good places to apply to work. Any and all information is really appreciated.

Specializes in Med/Surg.

I just came upon your posting. I live in Myrtle Beach and work at the newer hospital in Murrels Inlet. I do not know what they pay LPNs around here but I know as a new RN the pay was not wonderful in this area.

We have a Rehab floor in our hospital that hires LPNs and there are quite a few LTC and assisted living places in the area. It is mostly a retirement community or so they say.

Surfside is a good location. You have Conway not far, Myrtle Beach, then if you dont mind traveling there is Mt Pleasant and Georgetown. I don't know how helpful I have been but would like to wish you good luck!!

Did you ever move to Myrtle beach? Where are you working? Myrtle Beach is much like Hilton Head in that many of the hospitals here do not hire LPN's. They hire RN's and then supplement with unlicensed personnel. When I first moved here, I had 10+ yrs. experience as an LPN and I had worked at a very prestigious hospital (The Cleveland Clinic) but still had difficulty finding a job that paid a living wage. One of the Dr's ofc. that I applied at actually offered me $9/hr. Anyway, I just had to be patient and expand my view of nursing and it all worked out. Things just move a little more slowly down here, so don't give up if you are still trying.

gingersmom, what do you mean by "expand your view of nursing"? I am in school for my LPN and am trying to figure out where LPNs fit in the grand scheme here on the "Grand Strand"

I just meant that you may not be able to work a traditional nursing job like a medical surgical unit of a hospital (although I think that is very beneficial experience for new nurses). Just keep looking, don't give up, and you will find a nursing job in the area. :nurse:
