Moving for Jobs: New Grad RN from MA to West Palm Area :)

Published

Hello everyone!

I am a New Graduate RN with my BSN from Boston looking to relocate to West Palm Beach Area. How is the job market is in that region for new graduates? Or nurses in general? Thoughts about the hospitals in that region? Any information or tips would be greatly appreciated!

This is going to be a big move and i have no family in the area, so i need to figure things out before i pick up my life and move 1,000 miles away. Thanks in advance! This is a big move and i need to do something like this while i can! :)

-M BSN, RN

I ended up moving and getting several offers off the bat :)

That is wonderful. Can you help me out with some tips? I'm at the University of Florida and I will be graduating as an accelerated student next summer. I'm mostly likely loving that way and would love some help.

Congratulations, I am glad that you made the choice anyways. Would you like sharing what kind of facility did you apply to?

Thanks! It was a big changed and i have learned so much!

Vitas Hospice was interested in me, but i didnt apply.

I really only applied to Saint Marys and they called me back while i was still in MA and didnt have a FL license.

I know someone at Palms West and she called me about an interview soon.

I heard back from smeo assisted living places and drug detox, but i wasnt interested. As i said before, the only place i truly applied to was Saint Marys, but my resume got passed around and i got a lot of calls recently.

I want to work at the VA and am holding out for that, but going to check out other places.

When i moved here i did a lot of networking and many people were very willing to help me get a job. I think my education and background really helped.

My current plan: Volunteer at the VA to get my foot in the door and see if i would like to work there and then apply :)

I am in no rush to jump into something that isn't right for me.

I honestly don't know what to tell you. I keep hearing how hard it is to get jobs, but it has been real easy for me.

Not to be too cocky, but i think that the reason i have had places interested in me is because of my background and meeting the right people. I graduated in the top of my class from Boston aka medical hub with my BSN, I am ACLS Certified and speak fluent Spanish. I really think my education and background is what is doing it for me. Compared to the average new grad i have a lot of qualifications/certifications and training. Honestly, I really didn't do anything special. I just was open and honest with people. Nursing in my passion and people can truly see that and want to help. I only applied to one job, but all the other places that called asking for me were just through social networking.
