Hey, I am currently residing in NC and I am moving back to my hometown in Charleston, WV this Oct. I want to do ICU but I dont know which one! Can anyone tell me about the ICUs you guys work at, where would you suggest? I LOVED the MICU I worked at in DUMC and I am really scared that I wont have the support I am used to in WV. So tell me how you guys like it and any suggestions would be great!

Are you set on Charleston? Huntington has 2 wonderful facilities that need help and seem to have more respect for their nursing staff. The money is better too. I know several nurses who travel to Huntington from St. Albans, Cross Lanes, and Nitro. I have never worked down there, but I hear it is much better than any place in Charleston. Good luck and welcome back home.

ABSOLUTELY travel to Huntington if at all possible. I have worked in and around the Charleston area (CAMC x3, Thomas, St. Francis) since moving here 18 years ago and have been sorely disappointed, disgusted and outraged over and over again. I don't know anything about St. Mary's, but I recently took a job at Cabell Huntington in their beautiful, brand spankin' new SCICU and I can not say enough about the institution. I haven't felt this empowered and valued as a nurse since I left Johns Hopkins in 1990. I must admit that I am really kicking myself for staying in Charleston for so long. My only reason for not going there sooner was the commute from Charleston to Huntington-- but as it turns out, its a really easy drive that takes less than an hour. No place is perfect, but I think they are at least on the right track there. Yes, the money is much better than the Charleston hospitals-- and you can't beat the benefit package--period. Check out the current openings and submit an online application . Good luck, and I hope to see you there soon!

Thanks so much for the suggsetions. Actually, I will be living in Boone county until we find a house to buy. Now, with your suggestions, I thought about trying to find something in the winfield area so my husband can have two cities he can find work in when we come back. That way, if I have to take a job in Charleston for the time being I can and if I hate it I can move that way once we leave.
