I don't work at WakeMed (though I'd love to work in their peds ED!), but if you haven't been here in a while you won't recognize the area! My sister went to UNC from 81-85, so I've been coming here for a good chunk of my life, and I've been living here again for the last four years. (As a frame of reference, I remember when I40 ended at RDU - back before RDU was an international airport!)
RTP has really grown (I work in Cary but we are now considered part of the Park)! I know that side of town is really growing fast. I live in North Durham and currently commute to Cary, so I'm going in the opposite direction of traffic; I'm not sure what goes on on the Fuquay side. (I know the traffic going INTO the Park on I40 West now is unreal from the Wade Avenue split - yes, still a nightmare; some things never change - up to the Durham Freeway, and of course is bad in the evening going East.)
I'm sure you'll find someone here who can give you the scoop on the Other Side (LOL). My sister lives in Garner so that's about as far over as I go on the southeast side of Raleigh.
I haven't been into the city in several years. We have been visiting my brother in law and family a couple of times a year, but they live in Fuquay. The traffic has to be better then it is here in Metro Atlanta.
Thanks for your response:)

I lived in Raleigh for a couple of years in the late 90s and really liked it. I worked at WakeMed and also liked working there. I'm an RN, my husband works--will soon not be working for-Delta, he is being laid off:( So we are moving to NC in a couple of months. His family is there in Fuquay and I am of course looking at WakeMed for a potential employer. I'm wondering how traffic is between Fuquay and main wake or the Cary facility. Also, is it still a good place to work? I Liked it when I worked there 7 years ago, but things change.
Any help/ advice would be greatly appreciated:)
