[FONT="Book Antiqua"]Ok been at my first NP job since Feb with a rural health clinic, this job is 90 miles away from home so I opted to get a apt closer to the job and come home on weekends. I was hired to replace a md who had a child and left. Well now she is back but in a different office from mine but her practice has not picked up, her old pt's prefer seeing me. Here is my dilemma, I got a call from admin yesterday, they are proposing to move me to a different office 30 miles closer to my home, the reason given was the MD there is swamped and needs another provider. while my days are steady they are not busy and I understand the need to put me where I am more productive for the clinic. I also get the feeling that the MD who returned is wanting to come back to the office that she left which I took over. She had already called admin and complained that her practice had not picked up and she is averaging 2 pt's a day. I see 12-15. If i accept this transfer it means the drive from my apt to work would be 1 hour., the drive from my own home would be 45-50 minutes. I don't see any reason to hold on to the apt when I can live at home. My proposal to them is if I take the transfer and give up the apt to let me have admin time to vacate the apt and move all of my belongings back home. I don't think i should have to use vacation time or personal time to move. Does any one think this is unreasonable to ask for, I would only ask for 2-3 days of admin time to due this or should I just take it w/o pay. When i took the job i was not reimbursed for relocation. Any suggestions or ideas from the helpful folks at allnurses.com is appreciated

I'd ask for the time off with pay. The transfer is by their request and it will temporarily disrupt your life, so they should allow you to move on their time.

I would ask for admin time WITH pay and I would take 3-4 days. Methinks the MD was not happy that her old patients prefer you!
I am thinking the same thing, I am wondering if my patients will be willing to travel the extra 20 minutes to see me. I really love my patients and we have established a relationship over time. I was out sick 2 weeks ago and they were offered the chance to see DR.X and they said no that they would wait to see me the next day. I also love my nurse her OCD complements my ADD well but I dont know if she is willing to drive that much farther every day to get to work. But I am asking it to be with pay.
well talked to management today they are setting up a meeting with the md at the other office, as they put it he is intrigued by it , evidently he had been asking for another provider in the office. I did not bring up about the days off with pay to move but that will be a negotiating point alond with I only want to work 4 days a week if I am driving 2 hours round trip. Any one have any ideas on negotiating this I am not good at it at all
well i meet with the md at the other office tomorrow. so i will see how it goes, I am going to ask to only work 4 days a week but also do a late clinic once a month hope that keeps admin happy. I am also asking for PTO non charged against vacation to move. I also get the feeling that the Md i replaced wants her old office back, they have told me no that is not the case, that the office I am at is not generating enough business so i will let you all know the outcome

Keep us posted!! :-) and good luck with the negotiation!
well it looks like a done deal i will move to the new office Jan 3rd, the new md is a little worried about adding another provider as 2 new pediatricians are coming into the area, but they need to build their practice up and his practice is already established, so I am hoping this is a good move. I will miss my current staff but I miss my husband more. Any way the new MD left the decsision up to corporate. The CEO said move me.Hope this works out in my favor
