Moving to California

Published

I'm moving to California from Alaska and I am wondering where are the best places to work. We're moving to Huntington Beach and my husband is going to school at Long Beach. I'd really like to work at a teaching hospital and I am thinking about UCI. Is it hard to get an interview? How long does it take for them to get back to you? Should I call the nurse recruiter or the unit director? I'd like to work in the ICU. I've also thought about Hoag and Long Beach Memorial. Any other ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

UCI has currently imposed a hiring freeze, medical center-wide. My mother works at UCI Med Center and I've confirmed this by checking online, they have removed all postings. I'm not sure how long this will last, however.

I worked at Long Beach Memorial for 8 years. I did like it there, and I still keep in contact with nurses who I worked with there.

They have nice ICUs, and a separate childrens hospital. They have an onsite ADN to BSN program with Cal State Long Beach, and have a paid MSN program, that you pay back with a certain amount of time for the amount of $$ they paid for you education. I wish that they had these programs when I was still working there. It would have made my life alot easier. They also have on site day care, that when I was there, was available 24/7, even holidays.

thanks so much for the info! are there any other teaching hospitals around that anyone knows about? I think UCLA and USC would be too far.

Long Beach Memorial is a teaching hospital. It is affiliated with the Long Beach VA, and UC Irvine.
