Moving from Aus to NZ.... any advice?!!

Published

Hey guys, well I'm originally a kiwi but have been in aus for the last few years getting my nursing degree and have now got one years experience working full time. I have a job lined up at the North Shore Hospital in Auckland but am really worried that everything is going to be totally different in nz and I wont know what I'm doing. Can anyone thats worked in both countries tell me if there are big differences between the two???? (other than the ridiculous pay cut I'm going to be getting haha). Documentation?? Systems??? Do they do self rostering or at least get roster requests??? Has anyone worked at north shore hospital?? Is it a good place to work, or would Auckland City hospital be better???? Any advice or info would be awesome!! Thaaanks :)

Specializes in Medical.

I've only worked in Melbourne but I work with half a dozen nurses who trained in NZ and did their grad years here - I'll ask and let you know what I hear back.

Specializes in heaps!.

I worked in Sydney and Cairns and there was no real difference... maybe more NZ nurses in OZ. That's about all. It was a few years ago but I can't imagine there would be much movement away from the equivilancy we experience in most areas. One thing about NZ is that for a small country we are quite a regulated workforce. H&DC, Privacy commission etc but still I enjoy working here. If your looking for training while your here try NZortal.co.nz for training and development opportunities as your education hours are essential for your PDRP and yearly registration. Good luck.
