Mount Saint Mary's accelerated BSN Program

U.S.A. California

Published

I was wondering if anyone knew what the accelerated BSN program was like at Mt. St. Mary's College (ie: class load, stress level, professors, etc). I am trying to make a tough decision between Mt. St. Mary's College and a 2 year program at California State University- Long Beach. Are there any recommendations?

Thanks,

Sarah

i spoke to sister carol purzycki at msm and she said the csulb accbsn is modeled after their program at msm. but i have no idea on how strenous it is, classes, professors, etc.

my mother is an rn, worked in long beach and she knows some of the professors at csulb. in the regular bsn and msn - they're tough! so i can only gather they have the same or similar types for the accbsn. that program can be very demanding - some of her professor friends get joy from making students cry. but csulb turns out some great nurses.

hope that helps!

I don't know about MSMC's AccBSN program...but I did graduate from their two year program at the Doheny Campus. It was strenous (I worked full time through almost all of it). If I go to the Chalon campus to complete my BSN, it will only take me 3 semesters.

But it's expensive (the school is as a whole), and for me the commute is the determining factor since I live in LB and I have children...and I work full time right now. MSMC has an outstanding rep though....and I'm faithful to my alma mater.

Hi Sarah:

My name is Tammy, I graduated from the Mount 5 years ago, and work with students at CHLA that are currently in the accell. program. It is very tough, the standard 3 year program is tough at that school. Graduating from there you know your stuff, that is the plus. But the cost goes higher every year. Unless you are totally set on a private school, I would apply to Cal State and the MOunt at the same time. See which yu get into. Also if you go to the MOunt and ask to speak to one of the accelorated instructors, give her you name and number and see if one of the students will call and talk to you.

Hope this helps; feel free to email me.

Tammy

Hey Sarah,

I'm in the same position you were in 5 years ago and I wanted to see what decision you made and if you're happy with it. There are so many factors to consider with both schools and I'm having a hard time making this decision. (crossing my fingers that you still check this email :nuke:).

Thanks!
