Motlow 2019 applicants

Published

Hello (: my name is Kyla

Just wondering if anybody else is applying to MSCC's 2019 nursing program? The application opens up in a couple of weeks and I have been pretty nervous...I have never applied to a nursing program before and I hear that it is pretty competitive. If anybody would like to share their experience(s) that would be awesome!

@wkrbee I could seriously hug you right now!!! ? Thank you so much! Your kindness and willingness to help is very much appreciated ??

@wkrbee Are Landau scrubs still required?

Y'all know my disclosure - subject to change. I will post more required items and sort of a "things I wish I had known" when I can. I have 4 exams to conquer over the next week and a 1/2. I may sink yet! So, wish me luck..

I purchased 2 scrub sets and 1 lab coat. So that one pair is always clean and provides a buffer to not have to wash clothes every 5 seconds. I got them through Amazon Prime that way I could send things back if they didn't fit appropriately. Scrub Hub in the Boro is the only other place I ventured too and they didn't carry Landau at the time.

I survived my exams this week and the semester. ? Here is a bit more info I thought I would share. Good luck you guys.

-Required Uniform items-

  • Stethoscope
  • Goggles
  • Bandage scissors
  • Pen light (with pupil gauge)
  • Watch with second hand

-Studying-

If you get this down before fall, you will be ahead of the game. Learn to love "most correct", SATA'S (select all that apply) questions and how to answer them. Learn the ABC's, Maslows, ADPIE, SBAR, concept mapping and the difference between Subjective/Objective information.

Skim chapters prior to attending class. Focus on headers, paragraph topics, diagrams, boxes and side bars.

Power Point's.. don't squander your time trying to print every power point as soon as it gets posted. I have lost HOURS and taken out a small forest reprinting because slides were changed sometimes right before class. *see page 3 and remember the word 'flexibility' again.

-Clinical nights-

During clinical you will have to "pick up" your pt the night before. This is prep work for a care plan/enag, medication awareness for the following day, and to meet your patient. Show up again the next morning around 6:30 ready to go.

-Suggestions-

I'd recommend cleaning your house/room/car thoroughly before school starts. Food prep the best you can. Make ahead crock pot/frozen things and easy snacks to grab, such as, apples/peanut butter, veggies, grapes, hard boiled eggs, nuts.

I find Trello.com helpful in organizing a schedule for the content that needs to be studied.

  • For lecture/power points, I used a 1.5 in folder and dividers.
  • 1.5 in folder for clinical
  • 1.5 in folder for skills lab
  • After each exam, I move the ppt's to a 2 in binder and leave at home.

Yep, I think I love you and all of your help.

What all facilities have ya'll had clinical at?

@jowilk Clinicals were held 1st semester at NHC in Tullahoma, Lynchburg, Antioch, Murfreesboro, McMinnville. 2nd at St. Thomas Rutherford & Smithville, Tennova at Tullahoma, and Lincoln Medical Center in Fayetteville. Mental health clinicals were at Vanderbilt, Centerstone, Compassus, and Trustpoint in Murfreesboro. I may be missing a few. These locations are dependent upon renewed agreements with the school. Don't get it twisted..you may still be driving over an hour even if you can see one of these facilities right out side your window.

Hello, hoping a 2020 applicant comes across this thread or someone who has the answer to my question....I am a 2020 applicant for the two year program and I was wondering if anyone knew if the acceptance letters were already sent out or if they have been delayed because of covid-19 and campus closures?? Thanks In advance!

They’re saying they should be out by the 30th. Emails just went out for LPNs yesterday, so it should be any day now.

Thank you so much for letting me know that!
