Morton College anyone?

Published

I'm just curious if anyone on here attends, has attended, or knows someone who is/has attended Morton College in Cicero? I was wondering how their program was..there don't seem to be many people discussing their program.

Thanks! :)

Bumping..

Seriously, no one goes there or knows anyone who goes there?

I am a second year student there. The program is challenging but I don't have any complaints about it. I also work at a local hospital where there are a lot of Morton College graduates working as RN's.

OMG..I'm soooo glad you answered!!!:yeah:That's great to hear that you don't have any complaints about it! May I ask what other schools you were considering and why you choose Morton? What do the RN's that graduated from there think? Were they happy with the program too? It's one of the schools on my list.. :)

Thanks for speaking up hon! Seriously, it seems like Morton isn't mentioned much on here!

I was initially looking into BSN and MSN direct entry programs because this is a second degree for me. I applied and was accepted to West Suburban College of Nursing, I was planning to go there for the evening weekend program. At the time I was not aware of this site and all the negative experiences at that school. I also was considering U of I. Circumstances forced me to go the cheapest route possible and that was the two year degree. I was already taking my pre-reqs at Morton so I went ahead and applied there and was accepted. They only take 80 students per year and it is very competitive. The RN's have not said any bad things to me about the school although they have "warned" me about certain instructors. *I* have not had any problems with any instructors though. I think that they are very specific and have distinct personalities but that is a reality of life and it is better to learn how to deal with it now because there will be people like that in our work place anyway. I also think that the instructors care about your success and that the challenging nature of the program will better prepare you for success after graduation.

WOW..I had no idea that West Suburban had so many negative experiences! Thanks for that info too! Are you in Morton's district? The thing I worry about the most about not getting in is because I'm not in the district. Do you know of people that were accepted in your class who aren't in district?

Thanks again for answering!!! :)

I had no idea about West Suburban either but I probably would have still went there if my financial situation allowed it. It would have taken the same amount of time but I would have ended up with a bachelor's. I am in district and I know that they do give preference to those who live/work in district. I think there are a few students who are out of district. Let me know if you have more questions.

Thanks for answering my questions.. that would be great if there are a few students whom are out of district.. I called today and talked to Admissions..but not anyone in the Nursing Dept..and Admissions told me that there hasn't been anyone accepted out of district in 3 years.. I hope she's wrong!! I was planning on applying to start in the fall.. I'll try anyway.. Thanks again for your help with my questions.. greatly appreciated!!:redbeathe

All community colleges have an out-of-district enrollment provision. The tuition for them may be a bit higher but as long as your grades are in good order and high enough based on their requirements, you have every right, just like the rest, to be afforded equal opportunity for education.

If they insist that they cannot accept you because you're outside of their district and you really want to get that chance, consult an education lawyer. I bet they'd review your application in a heartbeat the moment they get a whiff of an impending suit due to discrimination.

Sorry... I just get too passionate when I hear about students getting 'prejudiced.' Talk to them and who knows... Worst thing that you can do is to not apply because of perceived restrictions.

Good luck.

Thanks hon! I'm definitely going to apply! But I think they cover themselves because their catalog states:

After June 1, applicants will be reviewed and ranked until

the program is filled.

* Applicants living outside the Morton College district will be

reviewed for admission in July if space in the program

permits.

So] if they fill all of the spots by people in district before July..then I guess they don't have to let out of district people in.. I'll at least try to get in and see what happens.

did you apply to morton? or any other nursing school? i went to mortons info session for nursing and they said they havent accepted any out of district, but it never hurts to try, a friend of mine went there 3 years ago and she got in on her first try, and she was out of district.

Yah, in 2008 pretty much everyone who applied..who had all of the prereqs got in....it seems like 2008 was the easiest year to get into a nursing program.. who knew? lol I think I'm applying..lol I still haven't handed in my application..and I still need to take that entrance test.. I did go to the info session.. it does seem like a good program. I'm applying to like 7 schools I think...2 of them are in Indiana. I know for sure.. at least I think I know for sure... that I'm not going to get into 3 of them.. but I applied anyway. You never know I guess.. :lol2:
