Moorpark College Fall 2016

Published

Hello,

I figured I'd get a thread started for those who are applying/applied to Moorpark College ADN Fall 2016.

Feel free to discuss the waiting process/TEAS/application process.

Good luck to everyone applying!

I'm going to apply next week! I'm nervous about getting in since my gpa isn't that competitive

Sweet! The good thing about the point system is that GPA counts for a portion of the points, so you can always get points through the TEAS or work experience! :)

I'm planning to submit my application tomorrow! I'm commuting from out of town to submit my application and it's been difficult to get answers from the counseling office. Do you happen to know if ENG 101 (from a San Diego community college) is equivalent to Moorpark's ENGM1A? I've been using the ASSIST website and noticed that both courses are transferable to a CSU college. I'm just worried of any discrepancies in the courses.

Yes if assist says it's transferable and the courses match up all should be well. Where are you commuting from? And what is your gpa of you don't mind me asking?

Here's mine :

English : C

Intermediate Algebra: B

Anatomy : A

Physiology: B

Microbiology:B

My overall gpa is pretty low at a 3.26, plus I have a 2.5 from pierce so it's even lower D: , But I took two semesters of a foreign language and work part time so I get extra points from that. I've heard from a student already in the program that there isn't a waitlist, but I've also heard of other people being an alternate so I'm not sure how the process exactly works. Do you know if anyone that has been an alternate or that did not get accepted their first attempt?

I also have a pending AA í ½í¸Š

I currently live in San Diego, and I'm planning to relocate to Moorpark in June. So I've been scoping out nursing schools in Ventura County. My prerequisite grade break down is:

English: A

Intermediate Algebra: A

Anatomy: C (I had a terrible professor!)

Physiology: A

Microbiology: B

My overall science GPA is a 3.0, so that'll account for 30 points :/

My remaining prerequisites GPA is 4.0

Nice! I also have two semesters of a foreign language. I'm hoping that my work experience and education will make up for my science GPA. I have a BS in Biology and also have my CNA license. I currently work as CNA full-time at an assisted living facility.

I've also read on another thread that there is no waitlist--it's based on points accumulated. So I'm assuming that the committee ranks applications based on points, and if someone has a competitive amount of points, they're chosen as an alternate if someone doesn't accept the admission. I really don't know much aside from that since I'm not too familiar with the Ventura Community College District.

Wow! Your work experience will definitely give you extra bonus point and your BS gives you ten extra points that's awesome! Moorpark is fourth in the nation for community colleges and they have a great nursing program I really want my degree from there. I just hope I get in first try or I've spent the last 2 years of my life getting a degree that I don't need that would suck!

I haven't heard anything about ventura's program, have you? I know you have to have your cna license to apply to their program, but I don't have mine.

I've heard such great things about the Moorpark nursing program as well, so my fingers are crossed that I get in! Your AA will definitely boost your application for Moorpark :) I've looked into the Ventura nursing program--their point system seems like its on par with Moorpark's, aside from the CNA requirement :/ You went to Pierce college, right? What do you know about their nursing program? I would apply to their program, but one of their prerequisite course requirement is Development Psychology and I have yet to take it (I've taken PSYC 101). If you have a chance, definitely get your CNA license! I've learned so much from being able to shadow the LVNs at the facility I work at!

Have you taken your TEAS yet?

I know pierces program is based off of a lottery system. I read on another thread about their program and someone was saying that 15 people dropped one semester! Pierce is a ****** school in my opinion, so I wouldn't expect their nursing program to be that good, but I'm just going wherever I get accepted.

Qualified applicants for Moorpark will be invited to take the teas on either Feb 26, March 4 and March 11th.

Oh wow! Thanks for the heads up about Pierce. I don't want to waste my time applying to a school that has a poor reputation :/ If anything, Pierce will be my back-up plan. Moorpark is my number one choice!

I submitted my nursing application on Friday! At this point, its the waiting game for me! :barf02: I was speaking to the woman in the counseling office, and according to her, they'll invite qualified applicants to take the TEAS up until the night before the TEAS exam! Since I reside in San Diego, that'll be a crazy commute. I'm planning to take the TEAS in mid-February and just submit my scores then.
