:confused:does it really take 8 months to get a CPNE date? I have heard that is the norm. Once elegible, how long a wait from that? And when are you elegible? I will be tesing in albany most likely, or one of the other NY locations since it's the closest to me.

Not really, it just depends; such as when you apply and put your start date. New York is fastest to get a test date. But there are so many factors. However, GA can take up to 8 months... they have the longest wait list. I personally don't live far from there but I didn't want to wait 8 months. I applied Dec. 15th and put my ready date for April 2nd. Where are you at with your studies? Did you just start EC?

You will test when you want. Trust me.

Yes, I just started EC so I probably won't finish all my exams until this time next year. (hopefully!!) I will be testing in NY. When do they let you apply for the CPNE?? When SHOULD you apply for it, when you only have 2 exams left or one??

You can't apply for the CPNE until you complete ALL your nursing exams and are within 10 credits from general credits. Also, you have to complete the FCCA, which consists of three exams... I did paper form but I believe it will be on paper very soon. Good Luck!

Thats what i was told also , but i was given a CPNE date within 4 months of completing course work. And you will need that time to prepare for the CPNE anyhow

I got a call 4 days after I passed FCCA (on Dec 4th) and was offered a date from a cancellation list (for Jan 8th). I passed my CPNE in Utica, NY. Great site to go.

This is where I plan to test. I hope I have the same luck on getting a fast date! What do you recomend for as practice for the CPNE? Did you attend a workshop?

Congrats by the way!!!:yeah: Have you taken your boards yet??

Thanks! (I still can not believe it, lol)

I haven't taken my boards yet - still have my English to do (not my favorite subject). I was planning for a longer wait time and left English to do while I'm waiting, but after I got the call it was only one month left to prepare. English had to wait :) Will try to pass it today :)

For CPNE - I attended Sheri's workshop in Atlanta (I live in Jacksonville, FL. I could just drive there.) Loved it. I had some problems with care plans at first, Sheri just explained how to do them in plain english, plus she gave us some homework careplans. I was practicing them like a maniac. I also found some pt scenarios and was sending careplans to Excelsior (You can do it for free, you know that, right?) As a result - I did not spend more than 15 minutes in a planning phase during CPNE, which helped me a lot. Also, I practiced my labs every day. At the end, I could do IM station in 4 minutes, IV in 6, Wound and IVP in about 8 minutes - very helpful when you have a brain freeze or have to redo something during the actual exam. I used my son's toy monkey as a patient to practice :D On EPN there are scripts of previous CPNE chats - I read them all for the last year. Another useful resourse - http://cpnex.blogspot.com/

Sheri has a subscription for the CPNE videos on her website. Some of the videos was shot during the workshop I attended and she gave us free 30 days pass. I was watching them every day, sometimes just as a background. Was very helpful also.

Oh, one more thing - before going to CPNE, practice at least ones all the labs in the same clothes you are planning to wear during CPNE labs. 2 girls in our group was wearing long sleeves and sleeves touched the sterile field. One of the students cought it and had time to reopen whatever she touched (I do not remember now, I think it was a boat for the wound station), another one did not notice and failed the station.

Good luck!

Oh, almost forgot - when you apply for CPNE, you have to put you "ready date". I noticed from the posts that EC will try to give you the date shortly after the ""I'm ready date". So, choose wisely :D

YUP! I put in a ready date thinking that I wouldn't get scheduled anytime near it............I DID! AHHHHHH! I've been living in a different state of mind the last few weeks.........and over the counter sleeping pills have become my best friend!! If I don't take them, I wake up in the middle of the night with my heat racing and my thoughts go directly to the CPNE!!
