My OPT gets done next July but the 90 day period is appraching soon (October) and I had a job lined up but didn't pass my boards the first time. I found out I passed yesterday (thank you god for the miracle) and am wondering if anyone has any sugestions on how I should go about looking for a job. Should I try to look for a job in hospitals that sponsor visas (there is very few of them right?) or should I just try to get a job anywhere for the OPT period and then worry about visa stuff later? Please help...any advice is welcome.

You mean your opt expires in oct 2009 or oct 2010?

If you mean your opt expires next year, you should try and get a job for the duration. and try to work on the visa during OPT.

You have 90 days to get a job from when OPT is granted. You are going to struggle afterwards as retrogression is still ongoing. I would say concentrate on finding a job and worry about a petition afterwards. Be prepared to either stay as a student once OPT is finished or return home and work whilst waiting for retrogression to move forward for you

My OPt ends next July but the 90 day period is in October. Thank you for your input! I will take your advice and just start looking for jobs and worry about petition stuff later on. Does anyone know of hospitals that have residency programs that start in October?

sorry, didnt realise you had 90days from when you obtain the opt. I'll say dont rely on programs with residencies. Look for hospitals that will employ a new grad and train them without a structured residency.

That was what i did.

Ok..sounds good. Thanks! But it is so hard to find a hospital that wants new grads:( almost everything says atleast 1 year experience. I am sure God has something out there for me...I just wish He would just a BIG neon sign outside my window telling me where to apply:)
