Montefiore school of nursing jan 2017

Published

Hello everyone I am applying to montefiore for the Jan 2017. Is there anyone in the process of applying?

I signed up for five to seven...what about you

Hello,

I've been looking into Montefiore and it looks like the right way to go for me. I was hoping through this forum I could talk to someone who has done the evening/weekend format to understand a bit more the reality of the time commitment for someone working full time 9-5 during the week. Also, it seems like I meet admission criteria, and I have some of the general courses like comp and psych done, but I haven't taken A&P or any other of the bio courses. Is it doable for all of the coursework (following the program) while working full-time?

They already posted in the moodle rooms, I printed most of the stuff so that I can prepare a binder with everything. Has anyone else looked at the documents?

I'm going to check it out now!

hello, not sure what to expect because I am just starting this month at the school but I am sure it is going to be challenging. Just have to manage your time and read, read, read. I prepared a work/study schedule that I will be adhering to strictly and I have my family as support because I am sure its a lot of work.

I'm in my third semester in the evening program. It is doable but be prepared to commit 100% to school during all free time. It is very demanding and many do not make it through but if you organize your time right and put in the work it's possible. 1st semester will be 2-3 nights a week (depending on what lab you do) with Saturday clinical. 2nd semester is 3 nights with sat clinical and third is 2 nights with sat clinical. 4th is back to 3 nights and Saturday clinical. Feel free to message me with any questions I'd be happy to help! Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback Kate825. How many hours on average do you have to study everyday? How are the clinical experiences in the hospital? how does the hospital staff treat the students? all this would be helpful to know .. thanks

Minimum would probably be about 30 hours a week which is about 4 hours a day (after work and school) but the average is probably closer to 40 hrs a week with more time on the weekends to study. Honestly you'll end up seeing that you're studying every chance you get. I have a far commute so I listen to the lectures in my car. I carry index cards on me everywhere. If I'm waiting in line somewhere I'm doing questions on my phone.

The clinicals are in the hospital they will pick by random which location you get. 1st semester you'll start in the nursing home for the first few weeks there's 2 that they use for that. Your "pull out" days will be 2 specialty rotations in the hospital which are observation only. The rest of the time you'll be in the hospital on a med surg floor

Hospital staff is pretty good. They expect you to be independent and confident and if you show that they will respect you much more. Also if you're the first to offer help to the staff even if it's not your patient they will likely come find you to show you all the interesting cases/procedures they have.

great! good to know. Thank you

Hi Kate,

Thank you for responding. I tried to message you but apparently that function isn't enabled for me yet. I just want to confirm that what you are describing includes taking the other requirements such as A&P? The 2-3 nights per week includes class time for those other courses besides Nursing 1,2,3,&4? Again, thanks so much for your time. I haven't had much luck with a response from the school on this yet.
