Monroe college (second degree nursing program)

Published

Hey!!

I am a recent graduate from the university at buffalo. I have a degree in education but always wanted to do Nursing. I came back to NYC to be closer to my family and was looking into Monroe College. I have been hearing mixed messages about the schools nursing program. Can anyone please help me.

These are my questions:

1)how is the accelerated nursing program (second degree nursing)?

2)what are the pre requisites for second degree nursing program students?

3)DO I have to have a certain GPA to be admitted?

Thank you in advance

Hi Elvi3, I went to the info session today for the accelerated bsn. Requirements are as follows:

1) preq: A&P 1&2, Chen, micro, english 1&2, psych, psych across lifespan, sociology, statistics, and speech(public speaking).

2) TEAS test: they just say be proficient no set score but thenre but at least 45th percentile on each section. Get ATI study guide they say study for it.

3) Bachelor's degree with 3.0

4) 3 semesters starting in Sept, 15wks each.

Program is 11months. Approx 6 classes 18cr a semester. However, there are 5 more classes they want you to take before entering the program that

you don't normally find at other schools so they will offer these classes in May to take before entering the program.

5) Cost: $586cr or 7,032 for 12-18cr.

6) you could be in class from 8am to 5:30pm so they say you can't work not even wknds. Looks really really intense!! They hold info sessions and they will tell you where they think you stand as far as what prerequisite courses you need but not if you are in or not.

Any more questions let me know.

Ntsh,

Do you know the 5 classes that are not offered at many schools?

The TEAS exam, can it be taken in a different state?

Do you know the number of students they are accepting in the program?

Does the program only start in Sep or will they start accepting applicants again in Jan?

Is Monroe going off your previous Bachelor's degree with the 3.0 minimum or your overall GPA?

I just finished my associates RN at monroe college , WATCH-OUT!!!! this program is NOT ACCREDITED( its accredited by the state which they will tell you, but it needs to be nationally accredited), if you looking to work in a hospital- do not expect find a job when you graduate, almost all hospitals require students to graduate from an NLN or CCNE accredited college.

Im currently going to an RN-BSN college that is NLN CCNE accredited- thank- god I'm not making a mistake this time around.

Also 20,000 a year LPN year

Another 20,000 Associated Rn=$ 40,000 (this college is WAY too expensive) prob cause its for profit

Hello,

Can anyone please help, I noticed that the LPN program requires Algebra, Biology and Chem from high school. I went to high school 12 years ago and I have college credits in math, chem and A&P 1,2 with microbiology. Does anyone know if they really need my high school transcript or do they take the college ones?

I am applying to Monroe College into their accelerated second degree nursing program for Fall 2021.
