Hello! I will be starting the Monmouth County LPN program on February 2nd! SO excited to be making something of myself! Just curious to see if anyone will be starting school then too? Or if there is anyone on here that already attends the program and would like to offer some advice??? Thanks!

Hi, I am not a student there, my husband is, and I often scan these boards just to get a taste of what he is going thru! He began in Sept, and will complete in July..he is a midlife career changer (mechanic to health care) ..he took all of his nursing prereq at Brookdale hoping for RN but list too long, so he is taking this for LPN, and hopes to jump over there later (LPN can enter the middle of the 2 yr program)..
In case you are wondering why I am writing and not him, he does nothing but study! Not to scare you, but enjoy your remaining 2 months - it takes a huge amount of time, it is the same for my husband as all of his friends there- you come home from school and hit the books till bed..the first 4 months they throw everything at you- micro, A&P, nursing skills, nutrition, med term, and more...he has it a bit easier as he took both a&p's, micro and med term in Brookdale over last 2 years...from what he hears, it may be slightly better in Jan, as he enters the 2nd phase..at least it will be one subject at once (med surg) and not 10 at a time..phase one has 5-7 quizzes per week, and 2-3 tests...they really try to cut down the class size, as they start with 35-40 and can only take 20-25 to the hospital in phase 2..he is still there, and I hope it gets better! He does like the teachers- not sure if they teach the first phase only and you will have same, or they follow him all the way thru..
It is just time, time,time...he is home at 3, and studies till 9-10 at nite- some of his classmates work nites and weekends, not sure how..
Anyway, I am done rambling- my main point is that it is a great program, just very tough, and please. please, please enjoy your spare time now!
Lisa
Oh boy Lisa! Thanks for the heads up! Considering I have a three year old and a one year old at home, I guess I'll have it particularly tough!

Congratulations!!I start my LPN program on January 5, I am in TN. and the waiting list here is very long. I took the NET almost 2 years ago and just made it in for this coming year. I am very happy and scared, but I am looking forward to the new lease on life. I have 5 children and my youngest is 3 and my only girl, I wasn't sure I wanted to leave her to go to school, but at my age ,I thought this is my last chance. Good luck to all.:bell:Merry Christmas

Hi,
I am in the program and my wife Lisa wrote to you before. I would suggest that you start looking over the A&P, you go through that book in phase I. You also go through medical term, math for meds, funds for nursing, BP, trach care, bed pans, feeding a pt, moving pt's, cahts and nursing leadership. Not to scare you but, the program is very intense. I know they tell you that in the beginning but, they really don't let you know what your up against. You will go through those books COMPLETELY. There are 2-3 quizzes everyday, book work and then once everyone gets their uniforms your in clinical once a week.
There are 2-3 tests a week for all of phase I. Time does matter so be there on time. If your 10 minutes late they count that against you. If you leave early you get that taken off your time. State requirements want you in for the hours so....
You will learn a lot, you will be scared when you go to the hospital and work on pts that have tubes, caths, wound drains and IV's in them. You can't remember everything, so don't even try. All you can do is your best, stay focused and put the time in. When I get home I review and go till 9-10 at night. If there is a test or finals I'm up at 4:30-5 going over everything before class. Your nuring process is the most difficult for most, for me it was common sense. Patient safety first. I have kids also and during the first phase you really need to put the time in.
Explain to them now that your doing this for them.
You will lose some of your class. The class ahead of us lost 1/2 by the end of phase I, we only lost 7.
If you don't understand something you can email me. Good luck, you can do it.
Ed
Ed- Thanks so much! I anticipate the program will be intense, and that I will devote a TON of
time to it, but I feel very confident that I can handle it! Thanks for the offer of emailing you
with questions... I just might take you up on that!
