Has anyone submitted their application to MidAmerica Nazarene's ABSN program?
I am applying soon, but am not too hopeful in terms of being accepted because my stats are too great:
Bachelor's GPA (last 60): 3.8
Science Pre-req: 3.1
TEAS: 86.7%
Please let me know your stats if possible. I would like some reassurance. Thank you!
@whoAmItoSay thank you for the response! so you didnt end up applying for spring 2019? the main thing that is worrying me is the price. did you submit your application for fall 2019 already? and dont worry your teas score and overall gpa is great! my stats arent as impressive:
@shortyy I found this spreadsheet to be helpful. Just scroll down to the ABSN portion. https://www.mnu.edu/sites/default/files/uploads/documents/financial-aid/2018-19/20181010-SPGS-Tuition-Fees-AY2019.pdf
When I applied for the program, I did add information into those sections as I felt it helped provide additional info about me as well as set me apart from other applicants. They get hundreds of applications every cohort and I’m sure they see a lot of the same information over and over again, so you have to make yourself appear as an asset to the program. You have to pitch yourself especially since they don’t do interviews. In the achievements section, I just included all of my Deans list and Honor Roll info. I also included certifications and license info as I’m already a healthcare professional, but if you aren’t already in the healthcare field I wouldn’t see why you would need to add info there. Also if you’re CPR certified, I would add that. My mentality is you leave nothing blank and cover all your bases. I’m sure even an N/A would suffice.
I know that the cost seems high, but I did a lot of research before I applied and the cost seems to be comparable to other ABSN programs in the area. You also have to take into account you’ll be in the field sooner and you’re paying for a very good education. Plus my understanding is that the amount of loans you take out are about comparable to a first-year salary, maybe even a little less.
@Lyn23 thank you for answering my question. so with the additional fees it comes up to 42,521.85. i was cpr certified and a certified medical office assistant both both expired so i dont think i can add them anymore. i do have honor roll and perfect attendance certificates from high school, but none from college. i will graduate with honors in may from my college tho. do you have any tips for the personal statement essay?
@shortyy you may not be able to add those things under certifications but you might want to include experiences from your career as a medical assistant in your essay. I would say absolutely follow the essay guidelines to a T. No more than 500 words but get as close to 500 words as possible. Include your achievements, work experience, etc. Also include why you chose MNU in particular for their nursing program over other programs, be it their faith-based teaching or their small classes, whatever you think. Again, you have to pitch yourself the best you can to set you apart from the rest.
@whoAmItoSay I don’t believe it was part of the guidelines. Just a suggestion that I think helped me. I don’t think you have anything to worry about if your stats are good.

@shortyy hi! I applied to fall 2019! I did not add any under the section asking for achievements. I do not believe it will affect our possibility of getting in. It is just additional info from what I have heard from other students.
May I know what your stats are? I posted mine on the first page all the way at the top! I am nervous because my GPA might not be good enough :(
